January 25:
After His Claim of Voter Fraud, Trump Vows ‘Major Investigation’
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/25/us/politics/trump-voting-fraud-false-claim-investigation.html
January 27: To support his call for a
sweeping federal inquiry into his claims of vast voting fraud, President Trump
turned on Friday to a little-known conservative activist whose work on the issue
has been widely discredited and who has trafficked in conspiracy theories.
“Gregg Phillips and crew say at least 3,000,000 votes were illegal,” Mr. Trump
wrote on Twitter, a reference to a claim by Mr. Phillips, who helped create an
app to report voter fraud, that he had “verified” such irregularities. With
those words, Mr. Trump bestowed the imprimatur of the presidency on new ground:
the feverish online fringes of American politics.

January 31: Debunking the Voter Fraud Myth
The president has continued to claim voter fraud was a problem in the 2016
election. But a look at the facts makes clear fraud is vanishingly rare, and
does not happen on a scale even close to that necessary to “rig” an election.

February 10: A prominent New Hampshire
Republican and critic of Donald Trump is calling [out] conspiracy theorizing
president’s bluff, offering a reward to anyone who can provide proof that
“thousands” of Massachusetts residents traveled by bus to New Hampshire to vote
illegally in 2016.
Fergus Cullen, the former chairman of the New Hampshire GOP, says that any
potential tipsters needn’t identify all of the thousands of illegal voters.
Evidence of a single illegal vote, cast by someone who boarded a bus to the
Granite State, will suffice.

February 10: Elections official asks Trump
for evidence of voter fraud ... A member of the Federal Election Commission on
Friday called on President Donald Trump to share any evidence he has to support
a statement that voter fraud caused him and former Senator Kelly Ayotte to lose
in New Hampshire in the 2016 U.S. election.
“The scheme the President of the United States alleges would constitute
thousands of felony criminal offenses under New Hampshire law,” FEC Commissioner
Ellen Weintraub said in a statement.
Trump said on Sunday he would put Vice President Mike Pence in charge of a
special commission to investigate voter fraud, despite numerous studies showing
that such fraud is rare in the United States.
Trump has said that fraud may account for his loss nationwide in the popular
vote to Clinton by nearly 3 million votes.

May 12: Trump has signed an executive order
creating the Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, and it will be
chaired by Vice President Mike Pence, with Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach
serving as vice chair. ... [Kobach has worked to] convince people that every
election brings a wave of illegal votes -- undocumented immigrants streaming to
the polls, dead people voting, people voting in multiple states ... he has
managed to successfully prosecute only eight cases of voter fraud, among the
millions of votes cast in his state ...
Only one involved an undocumented immigrant.

July 19: Four Democratic lawmakers sent a
letter to Vice President Mike Pence Tuesday requesting Kris Kobach's removal
from the President's commission on election integrity and for the panel to
rescind last month's controversial
request ... for voter information.
"The
clear majority of our state election administrators -- including numerous
Republican elected officials -- oppose the vice chair's request, which was made
directly after a secret, unofficial meeting of the commission's members," the
letter said. "These actions openly flout federal privacy and transparency laws."

July 2017: Trump’s ‘Election Integrity’ Commission: The Lies and the Cold, Hard Facts
http://www.pfaw.org/report/trumps-election-integrity-commission-the-lies-and-the-cold-hard-facts/
July 24: [Example of a lie]: I say I won a
Pulitzer Prize. The Pulitzer committee has no record of me doing so. When asked
to show some proof -- a certificate of some sort, a statuette -- I don't offer
it up. But, I am insistent to anyone who asks that, yes, I won one.
It's not unreasonable to conclude in that situation that I am lying about
winning a Pulitzer Prize. I can believe that I did and think I am telling the
truth. That doesn't change the fact that what I am saying is provably false.

December 26: Legal Actions Taken Against
Trump’s “Voter Fraud” Commission
Even before the Commission’s first meeting, organizations filed legal challenges
against its work on a variety of transparency, privacy, and administrative
policy grounds. Some groups’ actions are targeted specifically at the blocking
the Commission’s request for voter file data, while others challenge the
Commission’s operations and membership more generally.

January 3: Trump Disbands Commission on
Voter Fraud
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/03/us/politics/trump-voter-fraud-commission.html
January 3: President Donald Trump is dumping
a controversial commission that was charged with investigating his
unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud during the 2016 election, the White House
said Wednesday.
Trump asked the Department of Homeland Security to look into the issue instead.
“Despite substantial evidence of voter fraud, many states have refused to
provide the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity with basic
information relevant to its inquiry,” a statement from the president said.
“Rather than engage in endless legal battles at taxpayer expense, today I signed
an executive order to dissolve the Commission.”
“The commission never had anything to do with election integrity,” Senate
Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement. “It was instead a front to
suppress the vote, perpetrate dangerous and baseless claims, and was ridiculed
from one end of the country to the other. This shows that ill-founded proposals
that just appeal to a narrow group of people won’t work, and we hope they’ll
learn this lesson elsewhere.”

January 3:
Kris Kobach,
who was vice chairman of the panel, said Democrats come out behind because the
commission’s work will continue but will be completed without any input from
Democrats, who had been part of the
commission but won’t have a say in Homeland Security’s work.
“It will get done faster, but the Democrats no longer have a seat at the table,”
Mr. Kobach
said. “If they think this is a victory for the left, they are wrong.”

November 6: Kris Kobach, who headed Trump’s
voter fraud commission, lost his own election
Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who made a name for himself leading a
commission to root out voter fraud for President Trump, has lost his own
election for governor to Democratic opponent Laura Kelly on Tuesday.
Polls in the weeks leading up to the election had shown Kobach and Kelly locked
in a virtual tie – with Kobach often just a couple points ahead. The result is
an upset, given that Kansas, which voted for Trump by more than 20 percent,
hasn’t had a Democratic governor since 2010.

December 6: Kobach ‘very concerned’ voter
fraud may have happened in North Carolina
The Republican candidate in the race, Mark
Harris, has a 905-vote lead over Democrat Dan McCready, but that
result has not been certified. The state board of elections cited
"irregularities," and is set to meet on Dec. 21 on how to proceed.

December 6:
Dan McCready, the Democratic candidate in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional
District, withdrew his concession on Thursday as new details emerged about
allegations of election fraud that may have favored his Republican challenger.
McCready’s decision, first announced in an interview with Charlotte television
station WSOC, comes as North Carolina is dealing with an unfolding scandal over
absentee ballots. Election officials are trying to determine why many were never
mailed in in certain counties that likely would have favored the Democrats in
the election, and three people have told
BuzzFeed News and
WSOC that they were hired to collect such absentee votes, which would be a
violation of state law.
Republican Mark Harris is currently leading in the election by
905 votes. McCready conceded last month about 24 hours after polls closed in
the midterm elections.

December 12: North Carolina GOP admits a new
House election is probably needed after election fraud scandal
State officials have discretion under state law to call for a new election if
the basic fairness of the election is in question.
The strange tales of vote counts being leaked aren’t isolated. Voters have also
said an unidentified woman picked up their ballots, in another apparent
violation of state law, and an unusually high number of absentee ballots were
requested in the Ninth but never returned. A local Republican operative working
in support of the Harris campaign has been implicated as the ringleader of the
ballot tampering scheme.
North Carolina Republicans originally threatened to sue the elections board if
it refused to certify the Ninth results. But they have since backed all the way
down from that threat and are now effectively calling for a new election. It has
since been revealed that the state party may have been privy to allegations of
unusual activity in the district during the GOP primary in May when Harris upset
incumbent Rep. Robert Pittenger, as the Washington Post reported.
The state board has said it would hold a hearing of the evidence of fraud on or
before December 21.
