1.Victor Shokin was a corrupt prosecutor in Ukraine who was unwilling to
prosecute elite corruption, including perceived corruption within the Burisma
company.
2. Hunter Biden, a seasoned business board member, joined the board of Burisma
from 2014 to 2019. Other persons who joined the board include former Polish
president Aleksander Kwasniewski and Cofer Black who served as Bush's
counterterrorism chief (he joined the board in 2017, two years before Hunter
Biden left). Note that a board is a team of people elected by a corporation's
shareholders, and is charged with representing the shareholders' interests; the
board meets on occasion and is not part of a corporation's daily operations.
3. Some in the international community (the Obama Administration including Joe Biden, U.S. Allies, and Ukranian anti-corruption activists) called for Shokin
to lose his position as prosecutor due to his corruption.
4. While visiting Kiev in December 2015, Joe Biden threatened Ukrainian
President
Petro Poroshenko that if he did not fire Shokin, that the US would hold back
its $1 billion in loan guarantees.
5. Due to those pressures, Shokin lost his position as prosecutor in 2016. An
investigation into the company Burisma was dormant at the time of Shokin's
dismissal.
6. Joe and Hunter Biden were found to not be involved in any Ukraine or Burisma
corruption or illegal activity.
