Trump University
(also known as the Trump Wealth Institute and Trump Entrepreneur Initiative LLC)
was an American
for-profit education company that ran a real estate training program from
2005 until 2010. It was owned and operated by
The Trump Organization. (A separate organization,
Trump Institute, was licensed by Trump University but not owned by the Trump
Organization.) After multiple lawsuits, it is now defunct. It was founded by
Donald
Trump and his associates, Michael Sexton and Jonathan Spitalny, in 2004. The
company offered courses in real estate, asset management, entrepreneurship, and
wealth creation.[2]
The organization was not an
accredited university or college. It did not confer
college credit, grant
degrees, or
grade its students.[3]

The 9 Wildest Complaints Against Trump
University
... more than 5,000 people paid Trump University some $40 million, a quarter of
which went straight to Trump himself. “Mr. Trump used his celebrity status and
personally appeared in commercials making false promises to convince people to
spend tens of thousands of dollars they couldn’t afford on lessons they never
got,” Schniederman
said in a press release. In the filing, he accuses Trump University of
“deceptive acts and practices,” false advertising, “operating an unlicensed
private school,” refusing to provide mandated refunds, and other misdeeds.

November 5:
What the Legal Battle Over Trump
University Reveals About Its Founder
At its core, the accusation is that the name was deceptive on both counts: there
were no distinctive Trump methods or secrets actually provided. And despite its
use of terms like professors, adjunct professors and tuition, it was never a
university.
Trump and his university–which operated
from 2005 through 2010, when it was shut down as the San Diego suits and
multiple state attorneys general investigations were beginning–lured
approximately 7,000 consumers into paying $1,495 to $34,995 for courses where,
as the promotional material put it, Donald Trump’s “handpicked instructors”
would teach them Trump’s “insider success secrets” of how to invest in real
estate.
Trump “created, funded, implemented and
benefited from a scam that cost them … thousands, even tens of thousands of
dollars each,” the lawyers suing him have argued.

February 26: Yes, Trump University Was a
Massive Scam
First thing first, Trump University was never a university. When the “school”
was established in 2005, the New York State Education Department warned that it
was in violation of state law for operating without a NYSED license. Trump
ignored the warnings.

Trump University: Teaching real estate — and making
money
Donald Trump rarely misses an opportunity to brag about his wealth —
except when it comes to Trump University.
New York’s attorney general says Trump may have pocketed as much as $5 million
from his education business, but Trump has been vague on how much he made from
the company, which is embroiled in fraud lawsuits that have become a major
distraction for his campaign. He’s said it’s “a million, or more." And Trump's
lawyers have acknowledged the billionaire profited from Trump University — but
not how much.
More details about how Trump profited from the school,
which hasn't held seminars or classes for several years, could be spelled out in
Trump’s tax returns. But Trump has so far
refused to release those documents.

March 31: Thousands of former
Trump University students will get most of their money back, with a judge on
Friday approving a $25 million settlement."The settlement is fair, adequate, and
reasonable," Judge Gonzalo Curiel said in his decision. Nearly 4,000 former
students submitted claims and those who are eligible could get back about 90% of
their money.

March 31: More than 6,000 people who accused President Trump of ripping them off with his phony university will get back some of the money he swindled from them after a federal judge approved Friday the $25 million settlement between the president and former students of Trump University.
U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, the Indiana-born judge who Trump accused of bias because he’s Latino, approved the deal more than four months after it was struck, bringing an end to three separate lawsuits against Trump University.
...The
case was set to go to trial late last year, which would have forced Trump to
testify during his transition and allowed thousands of former students to air
their complaints about aggressive sales and useless classes. Instead, the
guy who said he never settles cases, settled the case.

A judge has finalized a $25 million
settlement for students who claim they were defrauded by Trump University
https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/10/politics/trump-university-settlement-finalized-trnd/index.html
April 9: "Judge Curiel's order finalizing
the $25 million Trump University settlement means that victims of Donald Trump's
fraudulent university will finally receive the relief they deserve," he said in
a statement, adding that the amount surpassed the initial number the
class-action suit initially negotiated.
"This settlement marked a stunning reversal by President Trump, who for years
refused to compensate the victims of his sham university," the statement added.
"My office won't hesitate to hold those who commit fraud accountable, no matter
how rich or powerful they may be."
