Robert Ian Goldstone (born 3
December 1960) is a British publicist, music manager, and former
tabloid journalist who gained international attention for his activities
during the
2016 American presidential election campaign.[1]
On 7 June 2016, on behalf of Emin Agalarov, Goldstone e-mailed
Donald
Trump's son
Donald Trump, Jr., to request a meeting between the younger Trump and
Russian lawyer
Natalia Veselnitskaya (referred to in Goldstone's e-mail as a "Russian
government attorney").[8][9]
According to Goldstone's email, Agalarov wanted to "provide the Trump campaign
with some official documents and information" that would help Donald Trump's
campaign and damage the campaign of his rival,
Hillary Clinton.[8]
Donald Trump, Jr., replied immediately: "If it's what you say[,] I love it[,]
especially later in the summer."[10]
At the request of Donald Trump, Jr., Goldstone attended the
meeting, held on 9 June 2016 at
Trump
Tower. The gathering included the younger Trump; Donald Trump's son-in-law,
Jared Kushner; Trump's campaign manager,
Paul
Manafort; Aras Agaralov's employee
Ike
Kaveladze; Russian lawyer
Natalia Veselnitskaya; former Russian counterintelligence officer
Rinat Akhmetshin; and a translator.[11][12]
The existence of the meeting was reported in July 2017. Some news outlets took
the meeting as evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian
government.[13]
In an interview with
The Sunday Times, Goldstone claimed: "When people said that [I was part
of some Russian plot] I thought it was the most ridiculous thing I've ever
heard. That doesn't mean that maybe there wasn't any Russian interference or
Trump campaign collusion in other ways. I don't know. But I'm sure I wasn't part
of it."
On 18 December 2017, Goldstone was interviewed by the
United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.[14]

May 17: Inside Anthony Scaramucci's
connection to Rob Goldstone
"I don't officially start until the 15th Rob. But I just wanted to drop you a
line to say if you ever need to pick my brains then my door is always open,"
Scaramucci wrote in [one] email. "Obviously there is still pressure on all
sides, but if we remain consistent and united I don't envisage any issues we
can't ride out."
The source declined to explain the substance of Scaramucci's meetings with
Goldstone. But when asked why Scaramucci interacted with Goldstone, the source
said Goldstone "was helpful on the campaign." When asked to explain how
Goldstone was helpful, the source said that the publicist was "just hanging
around the campaign. Nothing specific."
In a statement to CNBC ... he [Scaramucci] denied that his email to Goldstone
had anything to do with Russia.

September 24: Rob Goldstone wishes he'd
never set up that Trump Tower meeting with the Russians
"I'm willing to believe that I don't know who wanted this meeting,"
Rob Goldstone told NBC's Cynthia McFadden in a wide-ranging interview, in
which he also discussed Trump's behavior in Moscow during the 2013 Miss Universe
pageant.
Asked if he had conveyed a "dirty offer" to the Trump team in brokering
the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting, Goldstone said, "Yes. That is true."
"That [dirt] didn't materialize," said Goldstone, but he believes the apparent
willingness of campaign officials to accept dirt is what drew the scrutiny of
congressional investigators and special counsel Robert Mueller.
He considered
the Russian's presentation "complete and utter nonsense," he said.
Nonetheless, he acknowledged that the candidate's son,
Donald Trump Jr., came into the room anticipating — and very happy to accept
— "opposition research" he believed was coming from the Russian government.
