Michael John Avenatti (born February 16,
1971)[3]
is an American attorney and entrepreneur. He has appeared on broadcast
television[4][5][6]
as well as in print[7]
as a legal commentator and representative for prominent clients, including the
National Football League,[8]
various celebrity defendants,[9][10]
high-ranking business executives,[11]
and
Fortune 100 companies.[12]
He is also a professional race car driver, having participated in races in the
United States and Europe.[13][14][15][16][17][18]
Avenatti represents adult-film actress
Stormy Daniels in her
lawsuit against President
Donald
Trump in an attempt to void a
non-disclosure agreement she had signed.[19][20]
Avenatti also represents Daniels in a related defamation suit against Trump. In
October 2018, a federal judge dismissed the defamation lawsuit and ordered
Daniels to pay Trump's legal fees. Avenatti said he would appeal that decision;
Daniels later said that Avenatti had initiated the suit against her wishes.[21][22]

May 14: Michael Avenatti Posts Photos Of
Cohen With Qatari Investor Accused Of Bribery
“Warning ignored. So here it goes,” Stormy Daniels’ attorney tweeted.
Stormy
Daniels’ attorney Michael Avenatti posted photos Sunday on Twitter showing Donald
Trump’s personal lawyer Michael
Cohen getting into an elevator at Trump Tower with a man appearing to be a
Qatari banker accused in a lawsuit affidavit of boasting that he bribed
Washington politicians.
Avenatti said Cohen was in the building shortly after the presidential election
meeting with a group of Qataris, including Ahmed al-Rumaihi, an official of
Qatar’s national wealth fund.
Why did the men meet, Avenatti asked in his tweet, adding: “and why did Mr. Al-Rumaihi
later brag about bribing administration officials according to a sworn
declaration filed in court?”

May 14: Adult film star Stormy Daniels'
attorney Michael Avenatti threatened Monday to sue The Daily Caller and
its reporters individually for defamation, according to an email
published by one of the conservative news site's reporters.
Although Avenatti does not specify which stories from the Daily Caller
he believes are defamatory,
the site notes it recently published a story on his "questionable history,"
which
the article asserts "is littered with lawsuits, jilted business partners and
bankruptcy filings."
Avenatti's threats were not well-received by journalists, including
FiveThirtyEight's Nate Silver who said, "Avenatti seems quite Trumpian in
both loving the media attention and acting quite contemptuously toward the free
press."

May 22:
Who Did Playboy Model Shera Bechard Really Have an Affair With?
You may recall that a few weeks ago a judge ordered Trump lawyer/fixer Michael
Cohen to reveal all his clients. It turned out he had only three: Donald Trump,
Sean Hannity, and … Elliott Broidy. What’s more, he only represented Broidy on
one thing: a hush money payment to a Playboy model he had an affair with, some
of which was used to pay for an abortion. When that was revealed, Broidy
immediately confessed in a surprisingly workmanlike statement and that was that.
The whole thing seemed odd, leading
Paul Campos to make the case that it was actually Donald Trump who had the
affair, with Broidy taking the fall for him. Campos made a decent case, but
it was purely speculative and quickly dropped out of sight.
... it sure seems a helluva lot more likely that Campos was right. It always
seemed odd that Broidy had paid Shera Bechard $1.6 million for her silence,
considering that an affair with a guy like Broidy was hardly front-page news.
However, an affair with Trump would be front-page news, and this was
right in the middle of Broidy’s big campaign to get Trump to help him out with
the Qatar business. What better way to ingratiate yourself with Trump than to
offer to cover this up for him?
Is this true? I’m not sure we’ll ever know. But it seems pretty plausible.

July 10: Playboy model Shera Bechard ordered
to give Michael Avenatti sealed suit involving hush deal with GOP donor Elliott
Broidy
A Los Angeles judge declined to overturn a 20-day sealing order of Playboy model
Shera Bechard’s complaint against GOP donor Elliott Broidy Tuesday but ordered
the defendants, including Michael Avenatti, receive immediate, unredacted
copies.
Bechard filed the complaint under seal just days after Broidy’s reported
decision to halt his $200,000 installment payments on their privacy pact.
A source told the Daily News that Bechard named Avenatti as a co-defendant
because he posted a Twitter message April 12 that described her confidential
deal with Broidy. A day later, the Wall Street Journal confirmed the hush-money
deal in a blockbuster story.

August 11: Michael Avenatti says Democrats
must 'fight fire with fire' as he eyes presidential run
Speaking to a crowd of activists at the Iowa Democratic Wing Ding event,
Avenatti left the room electrified. The lawyer, who is
exploring a potential presidential bid, turned what has been a
sleepy presidential pre-season so far upside down.
In his remarks, which went for nearly half an hour, or twice as long as the
limit for speakers at the event, Avenatti drew repeated standing ovations as he
called for a vigorous, aggressive Democratic response to Trump.

November 15: Michael Avenatti, the attorney
for adult film star Stormy Daniels in her legal battles with President Trump,
was arrested Wednesday following an allegation of domestic violence, according
to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Avenatti, who has denied the allegation,
was booked
Wednesday afternoon after police took a report on Tuesday of the alleged
incident. He was released on $50,000 bail.
Police say the incident occurred at a residence on Santa Monica Boulevard near
Beverly Hills, according to
BuzzFeed News.
The identity of the victim of the alleged abuse was not immediately clear. The
celebrity gossip website TMZ initially said that Avenatti's estranged wife, Lisa
Storie-Avenatti, was involved, but it backed off its reporting after her
attorneys issued a denial.

November 16: Michael Avenatti, the lawyer
for adult film actress Stormy Daniels, lost a last-ditch appeal Friday to block
the eviction of his law practice from its Newport Beach offices.
In a brief hearing at Orange County Superior Court in Santa Ana, Judge Robert J.
Moss affirmed his Oct. 22nd order that Avenatti and his staff vacate their
ocean-view suite in a building across from the Fashion Island mall. He ordered
them to leave by Monday.
Avenatti’s longtime law firm, Eagan Avenatti, skipped $213,254 in rent payments
due over four months, leading the landlord, the Irvine Co., to sue for eviction.

November 20:
The woman who has
accused lawyer and 2020 Democratic hopeful Michael Avenatti of domestic abuse is
a 20-something Estonian actress who has appeared in the movies "Sargasso,"
"Crypto," and "Forgetting Sandy Glass," and has had uncredited roles in "Ocean’s
8" and "How to be Single."
Mareli Miniutti filed a petition seeking a restraining order against Avenatti —
the attorney who represents porn star Stormy Daniels in her lawsuit against
President Trump — in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday.
The pair had
reportedly been dating since October 2017 and broke up on the night Miniutti
alleges Avenatti, 47, attacked her. The gossip website TMZ originally reported
that it was his estranged wife who filed the report, but then, the website
retracted the report and said it was an unnamed woman.

November 20: Michael
Avenatti: Victim of set-up or domestic abuser?
No one should have expected Michael Avenatti to not aggressively defend
himself against accusations, first reported by TMZ, that he physically assaulted
his girlfriend, an actress from Estonia.
In fact, the lawyer, who is best known for challenging President Donald Trump by
pugnaciously representing porn actress Stormy Daniels,
tweeted
on Tuesday that he has videotape evidence from his apartment in Century City
that shows that the TMZ report on the alleged assault is false.

December 14: Some seven months before
Michael Cohen’s three-year prison sentence, Stormy Daniels’ attorney Michael
Avenatti tweeted out a report accusing President Donald Trump’s former “fixer”
of committing bank fraud. Now that Cohen has admitted to that charge in court –
and making illegal hush money payments to Daniels – Avenatti exuded his
characteristic confidence in a telephone interview sharing his next set of
predictions.
Almost entirely corroborated in short order, the seven-page report that Avenatti
released back in May has proven prescient and relevant in the wake of Cohen’s
sentencing. The report disclosed for the first time that Cohen used the shell
company Essential Consultants LLC to pay $130,000 to keep Daniels from revealing
her alleged affair with Trump. Cohen has since admitted that in federal court.
Less widely reported, Avenatti alleged Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg poured
money into that same shell company within 75 days after the payment to Daniels.
This detail has taken on a newfound significance in wake of
reports that federal prosecutors have been investigating foreign money
spilling into Trump’s inauguration.

December 17:
A woman
who took the Statue of Liberty hostage on the Fourth of July
to protest the separation of families at the Mexican border has been
convicted on all counts by a Manhattan federal judge.
Therese “Patricia” Okoumou, who scaled the base of the national icon, causing
the evacuation of the statue and Liberty Island on one of the attraction’s
busiest days of the year, was convicted on
three misdemeanor charges that could send her to jail for up to 1½ years.
Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for porn star Stormy Daniels, was also in court
because
he served as an adviser to Okoumou.

December 23: When the history of the Trump
era is written, scholars will likely marvel at the meteoric rise of Michael
Avenatti.
Before 2018, the prominent lawyer was hardly a household name. Less than twelve
months later, Avenatti's determination to draw attention to the claims of adult
film actress Stormy Daniels — who says that she had an affair with Donald Trump
before he became president and was then paid illegal hush money to stay quiet —
has made him one of Trump's loudest detractors. His efforts have also culminated
in the criminal conviction of Michael Cohen, Trump's former lawyer and fixer, as
well as the looming prospect that Trump's potentially illegal activities in
covering up the alleged affairs could contribute to his ultimate downfall.

domestic violence charges

February 13: It turns out that lawyer
Michael Avenatti is not a particularly good dude. We already knew that he was
arrested for domestic violence in November (the police declined to file
charges), but now it turns out that he also seemingly hid millions of dollars
from bankruptcy court when his firm went under in 2017.
The firm, Eagan Avenatti, was required to file monthly reports on its finances
throughout 2017. Avenatti signed those reports, swearing that they were
accurate.
But the reports didn’t disclose that Avenatti had opened six bank accounts where
he put millions of dollars of legal fees during the bankruptcy proceedings.
That’s what his former legal partner Jason Frank is now claiming in court
documents,
according to the Los Angeles Times.

February 14: Attorney Michael Avenatti, who
repped Stormy Daniels in her legal battle with President Donald Trump over
their alleged sexual tryst, has a new target: singer and accused sexual predator
R. Kelly.
Avenatti says he's unearthed "a bombshell of epic proportions": a videotape from
the 1990s of the R&B star having sex with a 14-year-old girl, which was shared
with
CNN and turned over to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, which
prosecutes state crimes in Chicago.
"It's over, after nearly two decades of sexual abuse by R. Kelly," Avenatti told
USA TODAY Thursday, predicting that the singer would not "survive" the discovery
of his alleged new video evidence.

February 14:
Michael Avenatti ceded
control of his law firm Eagan Avenatti on Wednesday and allowed a receiver to
take over the firm’s bank accounts, case files, computers, and other materials.
The move comes after a former partner of the firm, Jason Frank, alleged in court
documents Avenatti concealed millions of dollars in legal fees from the court
handling Eagan Avenatti’s bankruptcy and used some of the funds for personal
compensation.
Avenatti has agreed to work with Frank so he can collect his $10 million
judgment against the firm, but denied he had done anything wrong.

February 21: IRS employee accused of leaking Michael Cohen's bank
records to Michael Avenatti
John C. Fry, 54, was charged with one count of unlawful disclosure of
information obtained from so-called Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and was
released on $50,000 bond after appearing in federal court in San Francisco.
According to an affidavit by Linda Cieslak, a special agent with the U.S.
Department of Treasury, Fry repeatedly searched law enforcement databases for
information relating to Cohen. Fry, an investigative analyst for the IRS' law
enforcement arm who has worked for the agency since 2008, is accused of gaining
access to five SARs, which are filed by banks when transactions are spotted that
raise questions about possible financial misconduct.
One of the reports Fry allegedly accessed showed Cohen's Essential Consultants
had received a total of $500,000 from Columbus Nova, a company associated
with Viktor Vekselberg, a Russian oligarch who donated money to Trump's
inauguration fund. Other payments to Essential Consultants came from AT&T
($200,000) and pharmaceutical company Novartis (approximately $399,920).
Cieslak said Fry called Avenatti from his cellphone three separate times and
relayed the information from the SARs to the attorney verbally. The agent added
that Fry admitted to doing so when investigators confronted him in November.
The affidavit says Avenatti made the information he obtained from Fry public on
Twitter May 8, writing: "Mr. Trump and Mr. Cohen have a lot of explaining to
do." Avenatti declined to say how he obtained the records, telling Fox News at
the time: "That’s my work product and will not be disclosed."
Avenatti tweeted Thursday evening: "Neither I nor [reporter] R. Farrow did
anything wrong or illegal with the financial info relating to Cohen’s crimes
(the courts have found that the [federal Bank Secrecy Act] does not apply
... And if we did (we didn’t), then every reporter in America would be jailed
and unable to do their job."
If convicted, Fry faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. His next
court appearance is scheduled for March 13.
