November 14: The many scandals of Trump’s new acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker, explained

His Mueller probe comments, his advisory role at a scam company, the dispute over his appointment’s legality, and more.

Just one week into his new job as acting attorney general, Matt Whitaker is under siege.

He’s deeply distrusted at the Justice Department. There are widespread fears that he might try to squelch investigations into President Trump. There are questions about his background — and even about whether his appointment is illegal.

Before joining the Justice Department in the fall of 2017, Whitaker was a harsh public critic of special counsel Robert Mueller. Not only did he publicly opine that the Trump campaign hadn’t colluded with Russia and that there was no obstruction of justice case against the president, but he mused about how a replacement for Jeff Sessions could rein Mueller in.

Now Whitaker is that replacement, until a permanent successor for Sessions is confirmed. And shortly after Whitaker got the gig, word leaked out from his allies that he had no intention of recusing himself regarding Mueller — positioning him to learn what the special counsel has found, and to potentially curb the probe or even end it entirely.

November 14: Dems Demand Info on Acting Attorney General’s “Masculine Toilet” Scam

Matthew Whitaker’s past allegedly involves a number of shady business ventures.

In November 2014 . . . World Patent Marketing, announced the “marketing launch” of a “MASCULINE TOILET,” which boasted a specially designed bowl to help “well-endowed men” avoid unwanted contact with porcelain or water. “The average male genitalia is between 5” and 6.”” the firm’s press release said. “However, this invention is designed for those of us who measure longer than that.”

The special toilet was not the firm’s only notable offering. It marketed a slew of oddball inventions, including a “theoretical time travel commodity tied directly to price of Bitcoin.” Called Time Travel X and marketed as “a technology, an investment vehicle and a community of users,” the cryptocurrency never materialized. The firm also pitched Sasquatch dolls, promoting them with a video claiming that “DNA evidence collected in 2013 proves that Bigfoot does exist.”

December 21: Trump lashed out at Whitaker after explosive Cohen revelations

President Donald Trump has at least twice in the past few weeks vented to his acting attorney general, angered by federal prosecutors who referenced the President's actions in crimes his former lawyer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.

Trump was frustrated, the sources said, that prosecutors Matt Whitaker oversees filed charges that made Trump look bad. None of the sources suggested that the President directed Whitaker to stop the investigation, but rather lashed out at what he felt was an unfair situation.
