Undated: John Robert Bolton (born November 20, 1948) is an American attorney, political commentator, Republican consultant, government official and former diplomat who serves as the 27th National Security Advisor of the United States. He began his tenure as National Security Advisor on April 9, 2018.[6] Bolton served as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations from August 2005 to December 2006 as a recess appointee by President George W. Bush.[7] He resigned at the end of his recess appointment in December 2006[8][9] because he was unlikely to win confirmation from the Senate, which the Democratic Party had gained control of at the time.[10][11]

Bolton has been called a "war hawk" and is an advocate for regime change in Iran, Syria, Libya, Venezuela, Cuba, Somalia, Yemen and North Korea and repeatedly called for the termination of the Iran deal.[18][19] He was an early supporter of the Iraq War and continues to back this position.[20] He has continuously supported military action and regime change in Syria, Libya, and Iran.[21][20] A Republican, his political views have been described as American nationalist,[22][23] conservative,[24][25][26][27] and "neoconservative".[28] Bolton rejects the last term[29] and uses the term "pro-American" instead.[30][31][32]

March 24: Why Doesn’t John Bolton Resign?

If it weren’t for Friday’s media-shattering news of Robert Mueller submitting his final report to the attorney general, one of the main stories this weekend would surely be Trump’s order-by-tweet cancelling North Korean sanctions that, it turns out, no one knew existed.

No sanctions had been announced Friday. Officials in the White House and across government initially assumed that Trump had meant to refer to the sanctions imposed the day before. (Let that sink in: whole levels of the federal government were paralyzed over the president’s clumsy grammar on Twitter.)

It was only hours later that the embarrassing truth emerged: Trump “was referring to a future round of previously unknown sanctions scheduled for the coming days ...”

... Trump hired almost exactly a year ago in part to help direct North Korea policy ... [but] Bolton has been cut out of North Korea policymaking ...

April 1: John Bolton may have been denied a White House security clearance

President Trump may have let his questionable security practices slip beyond the family.

... House Democrats said a whistleblower told them at least 25 people headed for the Trump White House had been denied security clearances, but somehow ended up with clearances anyway. The House Oversight and Reform Committee is now investigating those alleged security sidesteppers, and National Security Adviser John Bolton is on the list, The New York Times reports.

May 4: The U.S. is sending the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force to the Middle East in order "to send a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime," National Security Adviser John Bolton announced Sunday night ... the deployment was in response to "a number of troubling and escalatory indications and warnings" on the part of Tehran ....
