Why Israel Loves Donald Trump

...
fresh strains between the Palestinians and the U.S. ambassador to Israel, David
Friedman, following the killing by a Palestinian of a Jewish settler.
After the settler was stabbed to death on Monday, Friedman tweeted that he had
previously donated an ambulance to the slain man’s community and that he was
praying for the next-of-kin, adding: “Palestinian ‘leaders’ have praised the
killer.”
That drew a rebuke from the Palestinian administration.

December 7: When Donald Trump delivered
remarks yesterday announcing his
new U.S. policy in Israel, the president seemed eager to tell the world how
impressed he is with himself. “While previous presidents have made this a major
campaign promise,” he said, “they failed to deliver. Today, I am delivering.”
Ordinarily, when a president announces a dramatic shift in foreign policy, he’ll
explain why the change advances U.S. interests. Yesterday, however, Trump didn’t
bother. Indeed, a Washington Post
report suggested he may not fully understand what he just did.
Several advisers said he did not seem to have a full understanding of the issue
and instead appeared to be focused on “seeming pro-Israel,” in the words of one,
and “making a deal,” in the words of another. […]

May 12: Trump claims he saved almost
$999,800,000 on US embassy in Jerusalem
After opening the embassy next week, the US will build out additional office
space at the consular facility by the end of 2019. But that space, too, will be
temporary as the US works to identify a site and build a permanent embassy in
Jerusalem.
"In parallel, we have started the search for a site for our permanent embassy to
Israel, the planning and construction of which will be a longer-term
undertaking," State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in February.
But Trump once again failed to mention that distinction Thursday while telling
the crowd that the US would spend only "$200,000 to $300,000" on the new embassy
versus a $1 billion proposal he said he was initially presented with.

May 14:
It’s anything but a
“glorious” day in Israel.
The opening of the United States’ embassy in Jerusalem was never going to
be uncontroversial. Since President Donald Trump
announced the plan in December, Palestinians, Europeans, and American
leftists have criticized the move as endorsing Israeli ownership over the
disputed holy city, even as Palestinians hold out hope that half the city could
one day become the capital of their own state.
But the backdrop to Monday’s ceremony could not have been uglier: By the start
of the event, Israeli soldiers had
reportedly killed dozens of Palestinian protestors, allegedly
in response to their attempts to breach the Gaza-Israel border.

Hillary Clinton, according to interviews and copies of the proposals.
The Trump campaign’s interest in the work began as Russians were escalating

December 3: Israeli Police Recommend
Indicting Netanyahu In 3rd Corruption Allegations This Year
He is one of President Trump's closest allies, and on the way to becoming the
longest-serving prime minister in his country's history. But after almost a
decade in power, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is battling a series
of corruption allegations.
On Sunday, Israeli police recommended that Netanyahu be indicted for receiving
bribes and other criminal charges — the third and most severe corruption case he
has faced this year. He denies wrongdoing and accuses the police of a witch
hunt.
It is now up to Israel's attorney general to decide whether he should be
indicted.
Avner Borochov, head of the [Walla! News] news desk from 2011-2013, said it
began when bosses instructed editors to remove a story about poverty in Israel
in which the headline included a quote from an opposition lawmaker: "Netanyahu
is blind to the growing poverty." Avi Alkalai, former chief editor of the site
from 2015-2016, said "there was an attempt to paint all that had to do with the
prime minister's household in a positive light and not negative."

December 8: Trump praises Israel as ‘your
country’ to American Jews
At White House Hanukkah party, the president insinuates that US Jews have a dual
loyalty to Israel
“I want to thank Vice President Mike Pence,” Trump said Thursday at one of two
White House Hanukkah parties. “A tremendous supporter — a tremendous supporter
of yours. And Karen. And they go there and they love your country. They love
your country. And they love this country. That’s a good combination, right?”
At least one person present agreed, shouting “Yes!”
Others not at the event were not so enthused about the insinuation, however
unintentional, of dual loyalties.

December 8: After UN vote on Hamas failed,

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley has said that following Washington’s failure
to pass a UN resolution condemning Hamas at the General Assembly this week,
President Trump suggested cutting funds to countries who did not cooperate and
asked: “Who do you want me to yell at?”
While the US-backed draft resolution got a comfortable majority of votes, it
fell short of the two-thirds super-majority needed to pass. Eighty-seven
countries voted in favor of the resolution, while 57 opposed it. Thirty-three
countries abstained and another 23 were not present.
