June 16: Donald Trump jumped into the crowded and rowdy Republican presidential field on Tuesday, but the business magnate has astutely played both sides of the aisle for years, and has been especially cozy — financially and personally — with Hillary Clinton.

Clinton, the Democratic front-runner and former New York senator who had some say over policy that could have impacted Trump’s vast business dealings, received donations from both him and son Donald Trump Jr. on separate occasions in 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2007, according to state and federal disclosure records.

Trump has also been generous with the Clinton Foundation, donating at least $100,000, according to the non-profit.

In another sign of their closeness, Clinton attended Trump’s 2005 wedding to current wife Melania Knauss at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, along with the likes of Katie Couric, Billy Joel and then-“American Idol” judge Simon Cowell. (According to People, Clinton had front-pew seating. Though Bill missed the ceremony itself, he did show up to the reception.)

July 17: Republican presidential candidate and reality television star Donald Trump has been deeply critical of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as he has embarked on his campaign, but it wasn’t always so.

The real estate magnate has a long history of delivering admiring comments about the woman he now calls the “worst Secretary of State in the history of the United States,” and a “desperate” and “sad” candidate.

When Clinton last ran for office, Trump was torn between supporting her and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. ” They’re both terrific people, and I hope they both get the nomination,” he told CNN in 2007, adding that he thought Clinton would surround herself with good people to negotiate a deal with Iran. A year later, Trump wondered publicly why Clinton wasn’t chosen as President Obama’s running-mate.

September 11: Hillary's emails in 4 sentences. 1) "... I should have used two accounts — one for personal, one for work-related emails," Clinton told ABC. ... "That was a mistake. I'm sorry about that. I take responsibility." 2) [Hillary's] use of a private email account was allowed and other secretaries of state have used them. But it is unprecedented that any of them had used a private server ... the rules have since changed since she left the State Department, and her arrangement would no longer be allowed. 3) ... there is no evidence that she has sent or received any emails that were marked classified at the time. More than 100 have been retroactively classified. 4) [Did Hillary provide] all of her work-related emails to the State Department ... This is unknowable at this point. [Hillary] said the server was wiped clean ... it has since been turned over to the Department of Justice, and the FBI is investigating.

In the first guilty plea of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, George Papadopoulos admitted lying to the FBI about contact with Russian agents that offered the campaign "thousands" of damaging emails about Clinton. Undated: Hillary Clinton vs. Donald Trump ... Clinton and Trump Responses to the REV UP Presidential Candidate Questionnaire

Last night, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump faced one another in the last official debate of the 2016 election. Now, it is up to the American people to decide who will become our next president, including the 34.6 million people with disabilities that are eligible to vote. When we include our families alongside voters with disabilities, that number rises to 62.7 million eligible voters, nearly one fourth of the total electorate (Rutgers University).

To benefit from the skills and abilities of people with disabilities, candidates for public office must address these disparities and set forth a vision to ensure the civil rights of people with disabilities and our full inclusion in society.

July 5: Hillary Clinton and her staff were "extremely careless" in handling classified data over a private email server while she was secretary of state, FBI Director James Comey said Tuesday — but the FBI is recommending that no charges be brought against her [because] evidence points to carelessness instead of intentional violations — and given that, they do not suggest criminal charges.

July 5: But, Comey said, the FBI did not find any indication that those emails had been intentionally concealed from investigators."

Our assessment is that, like many email users, Secretary Clinton periodically deleted emails or emails were purged from the system when devices were changed," Comey said. "Because she was not using a government account — or even a commercial account like Gmail — there was no archiving at all of her emails, so it is not surprising that we discovered emails that were not on Secretary Clinton's system in 2014, when she produced the 30,000 e-mails to the State Department." ... the FBI did not find any evidence of intentional misconduct by Clinton's lawyers.

July 5: “Although there is evidence of potential violations of the statutes regarding the handling of classified information, our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case,” Comey said in a news conference.

“In looking back at our investigations into the mishandling or removal of classified information, we cannot find a case that would support bringing criminal charges on these facts,” he added.

September 17: After more than five years of touting "birther" conspiracy theories, Donald Trump on Friday finally conceded a simple truth: "President Barack Obama was born in the United States."

He did not apologize or speak to his own role in spreading the falsehood, which many people see as an attempt to undermine the legitimacy of America's first black president. Instead, Trump offered a curt admission tainted by yet another demonstrably false charge: that Hillary Clinton and her 2008 primary campaign "started" the racially charged smear.

October 9: Donald Trump says Hillary Clinton deleted 33,000 emails after getting a subpoena

Clinton and her campaign don’t dispute that she deleted these 33,000 emails. They argue that these were personal in nature, rather than work-related, and therefore were not necessary to turn over.

However, they have denied that they deleted the emails after receiving a congressional subpoena from the House Select Committee on Benghazi on March 4, 2015. But an August 2016 FBI report on its investigation shows that Trump’s claim has some merit.

October 16: At a Pennsylvania rally last week, Trump said that excerpts of speeches Clinton gave to Wall Street bankers show the Democrat wants to gut entitlement programs.

She wants to knock the hell out of your Social Security. She wants to knock the hell out of your Medicare and Medicaid. And I am going to save them," he said.

May 3: The election may be over, with Donald Trump's presidency more than 100 days old, but Hillary Clinton isn't ready to let go.

In a brief but frank interview with foreign affairs reporter Christiane Amanpour at the Women for Women International event in New York City on Tuesday, Mrs Clinton said that she has conducted an "excruciating analysis" of her failed presidential campaign as part of a book she is writing.

What has she learned? While admitting that she made mistakes and that her campaign had "challenges", "problems" and "shortfalls", she pointed the finger at two men - FBI Director James Comey and Russian President Vladimir Putin - as the proximate cause of her defeat.

July 5: Why no criminal charges? Clinton has said that she never used her personal email to send information that was marked classified at the time, although some of her emails had been retroactively classified.

Comey says that's not true. Of 30,000 emails Clinton turned over to the State Department in 2014, FBI investigators found 110 emails containing information that was classified at the time the email was sent. Eight of those were top secret, the highest level of classification. A small number of those emails were explicitly marked as classified, Comey said. None of that classified content should ever have been sent on any kind of unclassified system ... He further pointed out that Clinton's personal email setup involved no full-time security staff — like she would have benefited from if she had been on a government system, or even just on Google's Gmail service.

Another 2,000 emails have been retroactively classified since they were sent ... [and] found several thousand work-related emails that were not included in the 30,000 emails Clinton released to the State Department in 2014. Three of those newly discovered emails contained classified information.

October 16: Hillary Clinton, when asked about the [sexual assault/harrassment Harvey] Weinstein scandal, took a shot at Trump, saying there is a lot of work to be done in the sexual assault arena if a man with several sexual assault claims against him can win the White House.

"Look, we just elected someone [who admitted sexual assault] to the presidency. So there's a lot of other issues that are swirling around these kinds of behaviors that need to be addressed," Clinton told the U.K.'s Channel 4 News in an interview on Saturday.

October 19:   CIA director distorts intelligence community’s findings on Russian interference

“The intelligence community’s assessment is that the Russian meddling that took place did not affect the outcome of the election,” [Mike] Pompeo said at a security conference in Washington.

His comment suggested — falsely — that a report released by U.S. intelligence agencies in January had ruled out any impact that could be attributed to a covert Russian interference campaign that involved leaks of tens of thousands of stolen emails, the flooding of social media sites with false claims and the purchase of ads on Facebook.

But the report reached no conclusions about whether that interference had altered the outcome — an issue that U.S. intelligence officials made clear was considered beyond the scope of their inquiry.

Hillary Clinton faulted President Donald Trump for continuing to "ignore and surrender" to Russian meddling in a tweet on Wednesday, asking whether the Republican who defeated her in the 2016 election will "protect the country."

The direct barb at Trump comes after US Cyber Command chief Adm. Mike Rogers told lawmakers on Tuesday that Trump has not granted him the authority to disrupt Russian election hacking operations where they originate.

"I say this as a former Secretary of State and as an American: the Russians are still coming," Clinton wrote. "Our intelligence professionals are imploring Trump to act. Will he continue to ignore & surrender, or protect our country?"

March 1: Andrew McCabe, Ex-Deputy Director of F.B.I., Will Be Faulted for Leaks

A Justice Department review is expected to criticize the former F.B.I. deputy director, Andrew G. McCabe, for authorizing the disclosure of information about a continuing investigation to journalists, according to four people familiar with the inquiry.

Such a damning report would give President Trump new ammunition to criticize Mr. McCabe, who is at the center of Mr. Trump’s theory that “deep state” actors inside the F.B.I. have been working to sabotage his presidency. March 6: Roger Stone: I never discussed WikiLeaks or Clinton emails with Trump

Roger Stone on Tuesday pushed back at the notion that it would be treasonous if President Trump's campaign coordinated with WikiLeaks to release emails from rival Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

“I’ve been accused of being a dirty trickster. There’s one trick that’s not in my bag: That’s treason,” Stone, a longtime GOP operative and informal adviser to Trump, said on MSNBC's “Meet The Press Daily.”

“For it to be a treasonous act, [Julian] Assange would have to provably be a Russian asset, and WikiLeaks would have to be a Russian front. And I don’t think that’s the case,” he continued, referring to the founder of the anti-secrecy group.

Asked by host Chuck Todd if he thinks it’s possible WikiLeaks and the Trump campaign coordinated the release of the Clinton campaign’s emails, Stone said he has “no knowledge that happened.”

“It certainly did not happen in my case. That is not something I was involved in,” Stone said.

March 8: Senior adviser at HUD spread conspiracy theory that Clinton campaign chairman was Satanist

John Gibbs is a former conservative commentator who initially joined the HUD as the director for Strong Cities and Strong Communities, a program aimed at spurring economic development at the local level.

In August of 2017, Gibbs, a political appointee, transitioned to the role of senior adviser, working in the office of the assistant secretary for community planning and development. In his current role, Gibbs is tasked with developing and implementing efforts aimed at increasing economic development programs for low-income people.

On Twitter, Gibbs made multiple references to a conspiracy theory started by far-right bloggers claiming Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta took part in a Satanic ritual. Tweets from Gibbs, archived on the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, show him promoting the conspiracy four times between October 31 and November 5 of 2016, using the hashtag #SpiritCooking. He admitted to taking the photographs on his personal cellphone, but argued for leniency — citing 110 classified emails found on Clinton's personal e-mail server.

Defense attorney Derrick Hogan wrote that the two instances were "similar," and that because Clinton was not brought up on charges it would be "unjust and unfair" to give Saucier a harsher sentence than probation.

July 30: German court orders far-right party to retract claim that government funds went to Clinton campaign

A Berlin court ordered Germany’s far-right party to retract a false accusation that the country's environment ministry gave money to Hillary Clinton during her 2016 presidential campaign.

Georg Pazderski, leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AFD) party, was ordered to scrub its website of the accusation and issue a correction stating that the German ministry "paid no money whatsoever to support the election campaign of Hillary Clinton,” Deutsche Welle news reported Monday.

Pazderski and his party claimed that millions that Germany’s Federal Environment Ministry donated to the Clinton Foundation’s climate initiatives in Africa were really funneled into Clinton’s campaign.

The court ruled that the false accusations recklessly jeopardized “public confidence" in the federal ministry by making the claim that a German agency had intervened in the U.S. election.
