Undated: "Guccifer 2.0" is a persona which claimed to be the hacker(s) that hacked into the Democratic National Committee (DNC) computer network and then leaked its documents to the media,[1][2] the website WikiLeaks,[3][4][5][6][7] and a conference event.[8] According to indictments in February 2018, the persona is operated by Russian military intelligence (GRU).[9] Some of the documents Guccifer 2.0 released to the media appear to be forgeries cobbled together from public information and previous hacks, which had been salted with disinformation.[10][11][12] On July 13, 2018, Special Counsel Robert Mueller indicted 12 GRU agents for allegedly perpetrating the cyberattacks.[9]

The U.S. Intelligence Community concluded that some of the genuine leaks that Guccifer 2.0 has said were part of a series of cyberattacks on the DNC were committed by two Russian intelligence groups.[13][14][15][16][17][18] This conclusion is based on analyses conducted by various private sector cybersecurity individuals and firms, including CrowdStrike,[19][20] Fidelis Cybersecurity,[20][21] Fireeye's Mandiant,[20] SecureWorks,[22] ThreatConnect,[23] Trend Micro,[24] and the security editor for Ars Technica.[25] The Russian government denies involvement in the theft,[26] and "Guccifer 2.0" denied links to Russia.[27][28] WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said that multiple parties had access to DNC emails and that there was "no proof" that Russia was behind the attack.[29] According to various cybersecurity firms and U.S. government officials, Guccifer 2.0 is a persona that was created by Russian intelligence services to cover for their interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.[30][31] In March 2018, Special Counsel Robert Mueller took over investigation of Guccifer 2.0 from the FBI while it was reported that forensic determination had found the Guccifer 2.0 persona to be a "particular military intelligence directorate (GRU) officer working out of the agency’s headquarters on Grizodubovoy Street in Moscow".[32]

July 24: Intel Vets Challenge ‘Russia Hack’ Evidence

July 24: Jared Kushner Claims a ‘Guccifer’ Imposter Demanded Bitcoin to Keep Trump's Taxes Secret

During the transition, Kushner reportedly met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak for the purpose of establishing a secret line of communication between the Trump team and the Kremlin. Apparently, this was an attempt to circumvent US intelligence eavesdropping, according to the Washington Post.

Kushner’s security clearance form did not originally list any contacts with foreign government officials; he now claims the form was submitted early due to a “miscommunication” with an assistant. (He also initially failed to disclose dozens of financial holdings.)

“On October 30, 2016, I received a random email from the screenname Guccifer400,” Kushner said. “This email, which I interpreted as a hoax, was an extortion attempt and threatened to reveal candidate Trump’s tax returns and demanded that we send him 52 bitcoin in exchange for not publishing that information.”

Nunberg told ABC News that he received a letter request from the committee on Friday to submit the documents by May 24. He was also asked to appear before the committee in a closed interview.

The letter, obtained by ABC News, asks for communications that mention "Russia or Russian persons, organizations, interests or WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, DCLeaks, Guccifer 2.0, or John Podesta," from June 16, 2015, to January 20, 2017.

July 13: Republican political operative Roger Stone insists he did not pass any information sent to him by Russian intelligence front Guccifer 2.0 to the Trump 2016 campaign, he told The Daily Caller Friday.

Stone provided a screenshot of his conversation with Guccifer 2.0 to TheDC, which has previously been made public. The screenshot indicates his Twitter exchange was listed in a recent indictment by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. The indictment targeted 12 Russian nationals for orchestrating hacks on the Democratic Party and distributing them via social media during the 2016 presidential election.

The indictment confirmed that the account Stone was communicating with was a front for Russian military intelligence outfit the “GRU.”

July 13: Florida Republicans play starring roles in Russia hacking indictment

The new indictment of Russian military officials who hacked Democrats during the 2016 presidential elections has Florida written all over it.

Two Florida Republicans and possibly a third — Rep. Brian Mast — play starring roles in the indictment, although none is named.

Unlike President Donald Trump‘s former political adviser Roger Stone and political operative Aaron Nevins, Mast’s identity is the least certain of any of the Florida Republicans hinted at in the indictment. The indictment released Friday details how a dozen Russian military officers used an online persona called “Guccifer 2.0” to disseminate information they stole from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic National Committee, which was led at the time by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.).

The message from WikiLeaks in July 2016 to a group of Russian intelligence officers who prosecutors say were posing as a Romanian hacker named Guccifer 2.0 urged swift action before the opening of the Democratic National Convention that month.
