October 16:
San Antonio
Spurs coach
Gregg Popovich called the
sitting president a "soulless coward" Monday.
Dave Zirin of The Nation reported the
news, noting Popovich's comments were in regard to Donald Trump claiming former
presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush failed to call the families of
soldiers who had died.
... Popovich notably compared the president's actions to
those of a sixth grader and called his behavior "disgusting" and "comical."

October 19: George W. Bush doesn't talk much
about politics in public. Which makes the
speech he gave Thursday in New York City -- a point-by-point rejection of
Trumpism -- all the more important and noteworthy.
The 43rd president of the United States -- and the last Republican to hold the
office before Donald Trump -- didn't mention the 45th president by name in his
speech at the George W. Bush Institute. But Trump -- and his views -- were
ever-present in the former President's address.

October 19: Former President George W. Bush
condemns Trump-era America: 'Bigotry seems emboldened' ... "We've seen
nationalism distorted into nativism, forgotten the dynamism that immigration has
always brought to America," Bush said. "We see a fading confidence in the value
of free markets and international trade, forgetting that conflict, instability
and poverty follow in the wake of protectionism. We've seen the return of
isolation sentiments, forgetting that American security is directly threatened
by the chaos and despair of distant places."
"We've seen our discourse degraded by casual cruelty," he continued. "Bigotry
seems emboldened. Our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and
outright fabrication."

October 19: "We become the heirs of Martin
Luther King Jr. by recognizing one another not by the color of their skin but by
the content of their character," Bush said toward the end of his speech. "This
means people of every race, ethnicity and religion can be fully and equally
American. It means that bigotry or white supremacy in any form is blasphemy
against the American creed. It means the very identity of our nation depends on
the passing of civic ideals to the next generation."

October 20: Nowhere in George W Bush's
2,000-word speech does he mention the name Donald Trump. It was crystal clear,
however, that the 43rd US president took dead aim on the 45th president from a
podium at the Lincoln Center in New York City on Thursday.
Ex-presidents traditionally shy away from the political stage. It was long
considered in poor taste for a former occupant of the Oval Office to criticise
one of his successors.
Then again, these are days when seemingly set-in-stone norms and standards of
behaviour have fallen by the wayside.

November 4: Former President George H.W.
Bush has a blunt assessment of Donald Trump: "He's a blowhard." And his son,
former President George W. Bush, has harsh words for his Republican successor as
well: "This guy doesn't know what it means to be president."

Former president George W.
Bush said he believes Russia meddled in the
2016 U.S. presidential election, departing from President
Trump, who has been skeptical of
intelligence agencies' findings that the Kremlin had interfered to help him win.
“There's pretty clear evidence that the Russians meddled.

June 20: In 2008, President George W. Bush
signed the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act into law, which
required unaccompanied minors from non-neighboring countries (all countries
except Mexico and Canada) to be turned over the Department of Health and Human
Services for resettlement within three days.
Former first lady Laura Bush
wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post which compared the family separations
to World War II Japanese-American internment camps. She wrote, "I live in a
border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international
boundaries, but this zero tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it
breaks my heart."

September 20:
President Trump said
Wednesday former President George W. Bush is responsible for the biggest mistake
in American history.
“The worst single mistake ever made in the history of our country: going into
the Middle East, by President Bush,” Trump said during an interview with the
Hill. “Obama may have gotten [U.S. military personnel] out wrong, but going in
is, to me, the biggest single mistake made in the history of our country.”

January 3: In Trump era, Nancy Pelosi admits
to nostalgia about George W. Bush. Here's why
When Nancy Pelosi was House speaker in 2008, she called then-President George W.
Bush “a total failure.” But these days, the woman who was re-elected Thursday as
speaker, acknowledges some nostalgia about dealing with the former GOP
president.
Pelosi said she and Bush “had our differences of opinion, especially on the war
in Iraq, but we had many areas of agreement and we were able to work together in
respectful ways. (I had) respect for him and the job he held and he of Congress
and our responsibilities," she told USA TODAY in an interview last month.
Pelosi is already battling a new Republican president, Donald Trump, over the
budget and spending for his proposed border wall. She said there is "no
question" that as speaker, her dealings with Trump will be different from her
clashes with Bush.
