Undated:  Elliott B. Broidy (born 1956/1957) is an American venture capitalist, owner of a global security company, and major Republican fundraiser. From 2005 to 2008 he was finance chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC). From 2017 to April 2018 he was a deputy finance chairman of the RNC, resigning from that role after the Wall Street Journal reported that he had been a party to a non-disclosure agreement with former Playboy Playmate Shera Bechard, under which he paid $1.6 million for her silence about a sexual affair between them.

In 2016 Broidy served as a vice chairman of the Trump Victory Committee, a joint fundraising committee between the Donald Trump campaign and the RNC.[19] In addition, he served as a vice chairman of the Presidential Inaugural Committee.[20] In April 2017 Broidy was named a national deputy finance chairmen of the RNC.[21]

In October 2017 in a private meeting with U.S. president Donald Trump, Broidy praised a paramilitary force his company Circinus was creating for the UAE. He urged the president to meet with the UAE's military commander Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, to support the UAE's hawkish policies in the Middle East, and to fire U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. He was also harshly critical of Qatar, an American ally at odds with the UAE.[13][22]

In March 2018, The Wall Street Journal reported that Broidy had been in negotiations to earn tens of millions of dollars by lobbying the U.S. Justice Department to drop its investigation into a multibillion-dollar graft scandal involving a Malaysian state investment fund, 1MDB, according to emails reviewed by the Journal. One email showed a proposal that would have given Broidy and his wife $75 million if they got the Justice Department to drop its probe into 1MDB. Broidy also prepared talking points for Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak to tell Trump during his 2017 visit to Washington, DC. This included playing up Malaysia's relationship with the U.S. in fighting North Korea and arguing against pursuing legal action against 1MDB.[32][33]

In November 2018, the New York Times reported that Federal prosecutors accused him of involvement in a scheme to launder millions of dollars into the United States to help Malaysian financier Jho Low end a Justice Department investigation into the embezzlement of billions of dollars from 1MDB.[34]

After Trump won the election, Broidy used his connections to the president to recruit international clients for his security business Circinus, promising that he could arrange meetings with Trump or other high government officials. He obtained defense contracts worth more than $200 million from the United Arab Emirates. Many of his clients had unsavory records.[36] He offered inauguration tickets to Denis Sassou-Nguesso, a Congolese strongman whose lavish lifestyle was paid by public funds. He arranged for an Angolan politician to meet with Republican senators and offered him a trip to Mar-A-Lago. Liviu Dragnea, a Romanian parliamentarian facing corruption charges, got to attend an inauguration party and pose for pictures with the president.[36] He reportedly offered to sell social media surveillance software, which can be used to identify political adversaries online, to the governments of Cyprus, Romania, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates.[37]

April 13: On April 13, 2018, The Wall Street Journal reported that [Elliott] Broidy had a sexual relationship with Playboy Playmate Shera Bechard, resulting in a pregnancy in late 2017.[39][40] The model later had an abortion. Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen negotiated for Broidy to pay $1.6 million for the woman's silence. The settlement was falsely characterized at the time as a personal injury settlement.[41][42] In response to the Journal article, Broidy issued a statement acknowledging that he had had a "consensual relationship with a Playboy Playmate", that Cohen had contacted him after being approached by the woman's attorney, Keith M. Davidson, and that Broidy had then hired Cohen to work out a non-disclosure agreement.[43] Broidy resigned his post at the RNC the same day the article appeared.[44] A few days later Cohen confirmed in court that Broidy was one of the three clients he had given legal advice to in the previous year.[45] Some columnists have since speculated that Donald Trump was really the person who had the affair with Bechard.[46][47][48] Broidy's lawyer, Chris Clark, stated that Broidy will withhold forthcoming payments to Bechard due to an alleged breach of the non-disclosure agreement on her part.[49] On July 6, 2018, Bechard filed a lawsuit against Broidy and the attorney Michael Avenatti, in relation to the cessation of the settlement payments.[50][51][52] Bechard has alleged in a complaint that Broidy was physically, sexually, and emotionally abusive of her, and that he exposed her to herpes.[53][54] Broidy has denied the allegations.[54] On September 7, 2018, California Superior Court Judge Elizabeth White granted Broidy’s request to strike allegations from the case going forward that were not relevant to the breach-of-contract dispute.[55]

May 22: Who Did Playboy Model Shera Bechard Really Have an Affair With?

You may recall that a few weeks ago a judge ordered Trump lawyer/fixer Michael Cohen to reveal all his clients. It turned out he had only three: Donald Trump, Sean Hannity, and … Elliott Broidy. What’s more, he only represented Broidy on one thing: a hush money payment to a Playboy model he had an affair with, some of which was used to pay for an abortion. When that was revealed, Broidy immediately confessed in a surprisingly workmanlike statement and that was that.

The whole thing seemed odd, leading Paul Campos to make the case that it was actually Donald Trump who had the affair, with Broidy taking the fall for him. Campos made a decent case, but it was purely speculative and quickly dropped out of sight.

... it sure seems a helluva lot more likely that Campos was right. It always seemed odd that Broidy had paid Shera Bechard $1.6 million for her silence, considering that an affair with a guy like Broidy was hardly front-page news. However, an affair with Trump would be front-page news, and this was right in the middle of Broidy’s big campaign to get Trump to help him out with the Qatar business. What better way to ingratiate yourself with Trump than to offer to cover this up for him?

Is this true? I’m not sure we’ll ever know. But it seems pretty plausible.

July 10: Playboy model Shera Bechard ordered to give Michael Avenatti sealed suit involving hush deal with GOP donor Elliott Broidy

A Los Angeles judge declined to overturn a 20-day sealing order of Playboy model Shera Bechard’s complaint against GOP donor Elliott Broidy Tuesday but ordered the defendants, including Michael Avenatti, receive immediate, unredacted copies.

Bechard filed the complaint under seal just days after Broidy’s reported decision to halt his $200,000 installment payments on their privacy pact.

A source told the Daily News that Bechard named Avenatti as a co-defendant because he posted a Twitter message April 12 that described her confidential deal with Broidy. A day later, the Wall Street Journal confirmed the hush-money deal in a blockbuster story.

July 13: Did Elliott Broidy really take the fall for Donald Trump? Here’s some new evidence.

In 2016, [a PI] was hired to trail Broidy and surveil the businessman. His customer was a Broidy associate to whom Broidy owed money. The investigator spent several months on this case, looking to document Broidy’s lifestyle and spending patterns. He tells me that his big discovery was that Broidy was mostly a homebody who spent much of his time either at his office or his house.

But there was one other address Broidy visited regularly: an apartment building in Beverly Hills, where he seemed to have a girlfriend. The PI says he never got the name of the apparent gal pal ... [however a list of tenants] included Shera Bechard, the Playmate in the Broidy case.

...  it does appear Broidy had a preexisting relationship with Bechard over a year before the $1.6 million settlement was reached. It’s possible Trump and Broidy each had an affair with her, although this piece of information does bolster Broidy’s account.

August 1: Playboy model who signed hush deal with GOP fundraiser says Cohen 'recruited' to fix problem, lawsuit says

A former Playboy model who claims to have had an affair and became pregnant by a top fundraiser for President Donald Trump claims the president's former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, was "recruited" in the case to act as a fixer.

The details of Shera Bechard's alleged affair with GOP fundraiser Elliott Broidy and the hush agreement she says she signed to keep the affair private were made public Tuesday after a federal judge unsealed a lawsuit she had filed last month with her attorney Peter Stris.

The lawsuit filed in Los Angeles targets Broidy, her former attorney, Keith Davidson, and Michael Avenatti, an attorney representing Stormy Daniels, the adult film star who claims to have had an affair with Trump.

The details of former Playboy Playmate Shera Bechard‘s lawsuit against Republican fundraiser Elliott Broidy over a $1.6 million non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that Michael Cohen facilitated will surface Friday in all its lurid detail — or so we thought.

As Bloomberg reported earlier, a Los Angeles judge ordered the sealed complaint to be made public, but Broidy is now petitioning for an emergency stay, citing the irreparable harm such a release would cause.

Broidy, a major GOP donor with ties to the White House, had an affair with Bechard in 2017. He impregnated her and agreed to pay $1.6 million in installments as part of a confidentiality agreement.

November 30: Trump Fund-Raiser Received Laundered Foreign Money, Prosecutors Say

Federal prosecutors cited the involvement of a onetime top fund-raiser to President Trump on Friday in a scheme to launder millions of dollars into the country to help a flamboyant Malaysian financier end a Justice Department investigation.

Elliott Broidy, a Los Angeles-based businessman who was a finance vice chairman of Mr. Trump’s 2016 campaign and inauguration committees, was paid to lobby the Trump administration to try to end an investigation related to the embezzlement of billions of dollars from a Malaysian state-owned fund, according to court filings made public on Friday.

December 13: Elliott Broidy, Former Top Trump Fundraiser, Hit With Another Setback in Qatar Lawsuit

Elliott Broidy's case against veteran UN diplomat tossed

Broidy claims he was targeted by Qatar and its agents over his efforts to shift U.S. policy against Gulf nation

A former top fundraiser for U.S. President Donald Trump suffered another legal setback on Friday in his efforts to pin the blame on Qatar for a hack of his emails, as a judge tossed his lawsuit against a veteran United Nations diplomat.

Elliott Broidy, a businessman who held senior finance posts in Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and his inaugural committee, sued Jamal Benomar in July, claiming he orchestrated the dissemination of hacked emails to media outlets.

Benomar, a British citizen born in Morocco and a former U.N. special envoy for Yemen, had denied involvement and sought to get the lawsuit thrown out by asserting diplomatic immunity, a status confirmed by the Trump administration last month.

Siding with Benomar, Manhattan federal District Judge Cathy Seibel on Friday dismissed the case, court records show.
