February 17: It's costing a fortune to protect the Trump family

Protecting the president isn't easy or cheap, and according to estimates from The Washington Post, the cost to protect President Donald Trump and his family is on track to supersede the cost to protect former President Barack Obama and his family by hundreds of millions of dollars.

February 22: Trump's Family Trips Cost Taxpayers Nearly As Much In A Month As Obama's Cost In A Whole Year

Donald Trump's regular jaunts to his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida appear to be costing taxpayers a small fortune. The president's three trips have probably cost the federal Treasury about $10 million, the Washington Post estimates, based on an October 2016 Government Accountability Office analysis of White House travel.

By comparison, Barack Obama's travel expenses averaged just $12.1 million during each year of his presidency. In total, Obama's eight year travel bill came to $97 million and unbelievably, Donald Trump is on pace to outspend him in less than one year. The Washington Post says "the elaborate lifestyle of America’s first family is straining the Secret Service and security officials, stirring financial and logistical concerns in several local communities, and costing far beyond what has been typical for previous presidents."

April 11: Donald Trump's travel to his private club in Florida has cost over an estimated $20 million in his first 80 days as president, putting the president on pace in his first year of office to surpass former President Barack Obama's spending on travel for his entire eight years.

May 6: "Rather than causing a big disruption in N.Y.C., I will be working out of my home in Bedminster, N.J. this weekend. Also saves country money!" he tweeted. ...

Trump has spent several weekends since taking office in January at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla. The frequent trips have been the subject of scrutiny from some who say the president is racking up millions of dollars in unnecessary travel expenses.

Trump often attacked former President Barack Obama for playing golf on weekends or taking vacations. Trump has spent 22 days since taking office in January at his golf properties, according to The New York Times, which has tracked his golf outings.

On Twitter: I asked @VP Pence to leave stadium if any players kneeled, disrespecting our country. I am proud of him and @SecondLady Karen.

October 8: According to the Air Force, flying a C-32, the model of plane used for Air Force 2, for one hour costs about $30,000. Pence's flight from Las Vegas to Indianapolis Saturday took about three hours and 20 minutes, so it cost about $100,000

Pence then flew from Indianapolis to Los Angeles on Sunday, which took about four hours and 45 minutes, costing about $142,500. [This does not include costs of advance personnel, Secret Service or support on the ground] ...

Some criticized Trump and Pence for the walkout, with Hawaii Democratic Sen. Brian Schatz tweeting, "Wait. This was orchestrated to make a point? That's not an inexpensive thing to do."

October 9: [MSNBC pundit Steve] Schmidt, a former Republican operative who served as Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) 2008 presidential campaign manager, ripped into the Hoosier on "Morning Joe" for what he called Pence's "stunt."

Schmidt said Pence wasted taxpayer money by flying Air Force Two from Las Vegas to Indy, and then back to the West Coast after prematurely leaving Lucas Oil Stadium.

"[Pence took a] full package of Secret Service from Las Vegas to Indianapolis for a stunt; inconvenienced tens of thousands of Colts fans to... use the flag and the anthem as a prop."

February 13: CREW Requests Documents on Eric Trump’s Uruguay Trip

Eric Trump recently
tweeted about a business trip he took to Uruguay in January 2019 to visit the construction site of Trump Tower Punta del Este. A previous trip to Uruguay cost the U.S. taxpayers “nearly $100,000 in hotel rooms for Secret Service and embassy staff.” Under the Freedom of Information Act, CREW requested Secret Service records that would show the costs of Eric Trump’s most recent trip to Uruguay.

Eric Trump, as a son of the president, is entitled to Secret Service protection. However this protection comes at a significant cost when the Trump children travel abroad to advance their private business interests. Ultimately, promotion of these international holdings also promotes the business interests of the President because he has refused to divest. The American people deserve to know how much of their tax dollars are spent towards increasing the president’s personal bottom line.
