How would CIA go about overthrowing a U.S. president, and what signs would we be
able to see as it went down?
There have been unprecedented protests since Trump’s election, and despite Right
wing conspiracy theories claiming that all the marchers were paid, there is zero
evidence for this. The demonstrations were furthermore not of the sort that
would serve any CIA interests — they were for the most part peaceful and
progressive, and even the more militant protests were not sufficient to
seriously threaten the [Trump] regime.

April 24: It is clear that Trump regards the
CIA as a political enemy determined to undermine his credibility in the eyes of
the American people. In his defense, during the election campaign, many senior
intelligence officials publicly threw their weight behind his Democratic
opponent, Hillary Clinton, and have since launched investigations into possible
Russian ties to his campaign, his advisers, and his business interests. Former
acting CIA Director Michael Morell even went on record to say that “[Russian
President Vladimir] Putin had recruited Trump as an unwitting agent of the
Russian Federation.” Throughout the presidential transition, and during the
early days of his administration, Trump consistently attacked the CIA for
sounding the alarm on Russian interference in the November election.

October 16: The CIA Is Playing Coy About
Trump’s First Raid In Yemen
... a group of top intelligence and military officials ... included Secretary of
Defense James Mattis and CIA Director Michael Pompeo.
... they were there to discuss and sign off on an intelligence-gathering raid in
al Ghayil, Yemen — the first of its kind under the Trump presidency, though
planning for it had commenced under his predecessor. Days later, Navy SEAL Team
6 carried out the raid, but early reports were that the raid went awry. One
service member and multiple Yemeni civilians — the exact number remains
disputed — were killed.

October 19:
CIA Director Mike Pompeo said Thursday that the US intelligence community
determined that Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election did not
affect its outcome -- a statement that was quickly clarified by his own agency.
"The intelligence assessment with regard to Russian election meddling has not
changed, and the director did not intend to suggest that it had," agency
spokesman Dean Boyd said.
October 19: The FBI, CIA, National Security
Agency and Office of the Director of National Intelligence ... all agree that
not only was the meddling the work of the Russians, but it was designed to help
Republican Donald Trump's campaign and hurt Democratic nominee Hillary
Clinton's.

October 19: Six intelligence leaders --
including Pompeo and Trump's DNI Dan Coats -- were asked by lawmakers on the
Senate intelligence committee whether they agree that Russian intelligence
agencies were responsible for hacking and the leaking of information to
influence the US election. All six said yes.

October 19: Asked ... if Russia tried to
influence the election, Pompeo responded: "Of course, and the one before that,
and the one before that. They've been at this a hell of a long time."
Pompeo did note on Thursday that outside interference remains a threat to the
midterm elections in 2018 and the next presidential election in 2020.
November 10: Is CIA Director Mike Pompeo
more faithful to the president than to the facts?
Again and again, the
former Kansas congressman has distinguished himself as a Trump loyalist by
throwing himself between the facts and his boss.
But particularly now that he’s maneuvered himself into having the CIA unit
that’s looking into possible collusion between Russia and Team Trump report
directly to him, he needs to show a lot more fidelity to the process, and to all
those public servants who work for him — and for us.
