March 30:
Facebook Failed to Protect 30 Million Users From Having Their Data Harvested by
Trump Campaign Affiliate
... Cambridge Analytica ... was paid millions of dollars by Donald Trump’s
campaign. Much of the money came from committees funded by the hedge fund
billionaire Robert Mercer, who
reportedly has a large stake in Cambridge Analytica. For a time, one of
Cambridge Analytica’s officers was Stephen K. Bannon, Trump’s senior adviser.
Months after Bannon claimed to have severed ties with the company, checks from
the Trump campaign for Cambridge Analytica’s services continued to show up at
one of
Bannon’s addresses in Los Angeles.

June 14: Cambridge Analytica, the data
analytics firm that helped launch the campaign of President Donald Trump to
victory has threatened to sue a British newspaper over an investigative series
into the alleged role it played in the Brexit campaign, in which British
citizens voted to leave the European Union.
The series, published between February and May 2017, alleges that the two
separate Brexit campaigns, Vote Leave and Leave.EU violated British election
finance laws by failing to report
links between the data firms they hired, Aggregate IQ and Cambridge
Analytica

October 27: A Trump campaign official
insists to CNN that they hired Cambridge Analytica in order to bring on board
some key staff who were known to be talented in the area of GOP data [and] only
used the Republican National Committee's voter data files ... the source said
they never used Cambridge Analytica's data base [supposedly not to create a
searchable data base for Hillary Clinton emails, as had been suggested].

October 27: Cambridge Analytica was part of
the Trump campaign's three-pronged data operation, which was led by digital
strategist Brad Parscale and overseen by Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Parscale and employees from his firm, Giles-Parscale, incorporated some staffers
from Cambridge Analytica into their data operation. They also worked with teams
from data companies that were partnered with the Republican National Committee.
Former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon, who is closely affiliated
with the Mercers [Trump supporters and donors], served as Cambridge Analytica's
vice president and sat on its board,
according to The New York Times. A Bannon spokesman told the Times he
stepped down from the post before joining the Trump campaign ...Ale Cambridge
Analytica's CEO is Alexander Nix.

February 16: Bruce Ohr, the Department of
Justice official who brought opposition research on Donald Trump to the FBI in
2016, did not disclose that the company that produced it at the Democratic
National Committee’s behest was paying his wife,
documents obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation show.
Ohr also did not obtain a conflict of interest waiver from his superiors at the
Justice Department, according to the documents.
The omission may explain why Ohr was demoted from his post as associate deputy
attorney general after the relationship between the company, Fusion GPS, and his
wife emerged and after Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson acknowledged meeting
with Ohr.

March 20: Cambridge Analytica boasted that
it ran the entire Trump campaign
It’s unclear how much influence Cambridge Analytica, a firm that
consulted for the Trump campaign, had on
the 2016 presidential election, but, in a private
sales pitch, the firm took all the credit. It also hinted at campaign
machinations that are illegal under US law.

March 30: Government watchdog groups on
Thursday called for an investigation into whether President Trump’s campaign and
a super PAC controlled by his new national security adviser conspired with an
embattled political data firm to violate elections laws.
In complaints filed Thursday
with the Justice Department, the watchdog groups allege that the firm,
Cambridge Analytica, violated a law barring foreign nationals from participating
in U.S. elections. And they accuse the Trump campaign and John Bolton Super PAC
of knowing their actions were improper when they worked with the firm.

Kirsten Fontenrose joined the Trump White House in March as the NSC

May 6: Leaked emails reveal that when
Cambridge Analytica told Facebook almost a year before the election that it had
deleted data harvested from tens of millions of
Facebook users, it stopped short of agreeing to also erase derivatives of
the data.
Derivatives of data, which can include predictive models, or clusters of
populations in psychological groupings, can be highly valuable to companies
involved in micro-targeting advertisements to voters. Data scientists say such
models and analysis are often more valuable than underlying raw data.
Donald Trump hired Cambridge Analytica after he became the Republican
nominee months later and, according to two former employees, the company
retained models and aggregated versions of Facebook data throughout the
presidential campaign and beyond.
