Robert Francis "Beto"
O'Rourke (born September 26, 1972) is an American businessman and politician of the
Democratic Party who represented
Texas's 16th congressional district for three terms in the
United States House of Representatives.
A native of
El
Paso, Texas, O'Rourke served on the El Paso
City Council from 2005 to 2011. O'Rourke was elected to the U.S. House of
Representatives
in 2012 after defeating incumbent
Silvestre Reyes in a Democratic
primary. Instead of seeking re-election in 2018, he ran for
U.S. Senate and was narrowly defeated by
Republican incumbent Senator
Ted Cruz.
On March 14, 2019, he announced
his candidacy for the
Democratic nomination for
President of the United States in
2020.[1]

August 22: In San Antonio, a resident told
O’Rourke she’d seen what someone described as his mugshot. O’Rourke replied:
"More than 20 years ago, I was arrested--not once, but twice. So you should know
that and we should all own that, if asked." O’Rourke specified that he’d been
arrested for attempting to hop a fence at the University of Texas at El Paso and
later, he said, for a "far more serious mistake: I drove under the influence of
alcohol. There’s no justifying that."

October 3: The Political Fight That Launched
Beto O’Rourke’s Career—and a Barrage of Attack Ads
Why Ted Cruz is slamming his rival over an El Paso redevelopment plan.
Republican attack ads during the Trump era tend to follow a familiar recipe: a
splash of Colin Kaepernick, a dash of MS-13, and a whole lot of guns. But when
Club for Growth Action aired its first ads attacking Rep. Beto O’Rourke
(D-Texas) last month, the Republican-aligned super-PAC deviated from the
formula. The 30-second spot, the first volley in an anticipated
multimillion-dollar onslaught, focused on O’Rourke’s role in a controversial
redevelopment plan in El Paso, where the Senate candidate served on the city
council for six years starting in 2005. “Beto the Bully,” according to the ad,
had used the threat of eminent domain to uproot a Mexican-American neighborhood
on behalf of a “cabal” of wealthy “conquistadores”—such as his father-in-law:

March 15: Beto O'Rourke Was Reportedly a
Member of a 'Hacktivist' Group. What's That?
Democratic presidential candidate and former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke was
once a member of computer hacktivist group called
Cult of the Dead Cow (CDC), Reuters
reported Friday.
During his time as a member of the CDC — originators of the term “hacktivism”
and one of the oldest hacker clubs in the U.S. — a teenage O’Rourke reportedly
stole long-distance telephone service to get online, pirated computer games, and
shared his thoughts under the name “Psychedelic Warlord.” Through all the baud
modems, text files, and manifestos, one pivotal question comes to mind: What
exactly is “hacktivism?”
A portmanteau of hacker and activism, hacktivism involves using technology to
conduct activism-related behavior, usually to attract attention to an issue and
bring about some form of political or social change.

March 20: Beto O'Rourke crop circle portrait
pops up on Texas ranch
Less than a week after announcing his 2020
presidential bid, O’Rourke, onetime Texas representative, was honored with
the two-acre crop creation.
The artist, Stan Herd, used soil, grass and rock to dress his "Beto 2020" canvas
on an East Austin ranch,
Fox 7 reported. He has done similar land portraits of Democratic nominees in
the past. Notable among them: one of Barack Obama in 2008.
Herd, a Kansas-based artist, has been creating earth art for more than 40 years.
