Undated: We all know how important it is that we Americans can trust our government.
Therefore, whenever a ... claim is made that appears to have even a
smidgeon of truth to it, as intelligent Americans we must examine that claim thoroughly to get at the facts. On
the other side of that coin, you know that "alternative facts" from our
government officials are simply not acceptable ... ever.

November 24: When
Donald J. Trump bought a fixer-upper golf club on Lowes Island ... for $13
million in 2009 ... Mr. Trump ... upgraded its place in history.
Between the 14th hole and the 15th tee of one of the club’s two courses, Mr.
Trump installed a flagpole on a stone pedestal overlooking the Potomac, to which
he affixed a plaque purportedly designating “The River of Blood.”
Like many of
Mr. Trump’s claims, the inscription was evidently not fact-checked.
“The River of Blood?” ... “Nope, not there.”

April 6: Rep. Elijah E. Cummings is disputing President Donald
Trump's characterization of a conversation they had at the White House last
month -- arguing he never said Trump would "go down as one of the great
presidents."
Trump's mention of Cummings, the most recent example in a series of similar
exchanges, came during an interview with
The New York Times. Trump raised Cummings, a Baltimore Democrat, during a
conversation about Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch.
"Elijah Cummings was in my office and he said, 'You will go down as one of the
great presidents in the history of our country,'" Trump said, according to a
transcript of the Times interview. "And then he went out and I watched him on
television yesterday and I said, 'Was that the same man?'"

April 12: Trump said, "I had previously said that NATO was obsolete
because it failed to deal adequately with terrorism. Since my comments, they
have changed their policy and now have a new division focused on terror
threats.". ... Trump strongly implies that NATO acted because of his
concerns. ... But experts agree that nothing of the sort happened. NATO
involvement in counter-terrorism issued its first formal declaration on
terrorism in 1980, and it became a significant issue for the alliance on Sept.
11, 2001, said Lisa Sawyer Samp, a senior fellow in the international security
program of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Trump just keeps saying things that aren't true ...
And winning the White House didn't change Trump's tendencies to

May 1: [Trump, when questionend about the
false talk from the White House of Obama wiretapping]: I don't stand by
anything. I just-- you can take it the way you want. I think our side's been
proven very strongly. And everybody's talking about it. And frankly it should be
discussed. I think that is a very big surveillance of our citizens. I think it's
a very big topic. And it's a topic that should be number one. And we should find
out what the hell is going on.

May 1: "...had Andrew Jackson been a little
later you wouldn't have had the Civil War," Mr. Trump said in an interview with
journalist Salena Zito on SiriusXM's "Main Street Meets the Beltway," which was
released Monday. "He was a very tough person, but he had a big heart. He was
really angry that he saw what was happening with regard to the Civil War – he
said 'there's no reason for this.'" ... Andrew Jackson died in 1845. It seems
unlikely that he was "really angry that he saw what was happening in regard to
the Civil War" since the war didn't start until 1861.

May 1: Trump's question [about the civil
war] as to "Why could that one not have been worked out?" suggests that he isn't
very familiar with the literature of the Civil War and the whole, um, slavery
thing.
