June 22: Despite Trump’s own claims that he’s worth around $7 billion,
last September the most recent Forbes 400 rankings — which many consider to have
overestimated the real estate developer’s wealth in the past — estimated his net
worth at $2.4 billion, putting him in a six-way tie for 153rd-richest person in
America.

February 17:
Actually, Trump’s Congress Isn’t Off To A Slower Start Than Normal
Getting legislation through Congress and signed by the president takes time.
That’s especially the case for controversial laws. Obama had to wait more than a
year before he was able to sign the
Affordable Care Act. Clinton signed the “Family
and Medical Leave Act” in his
first few
weeks, but George W. Bush didn’t sign his major tax cuts until
June of
his first year in office.

March 28: President Donald Trump promised Americans that if he were
elected president, there would be so much winning "you
may get bored with the winning."
Yet exactly two-thirds into his first 100 days as president, Trump has had zero
legislative wins from the Republican-controlled Congress — with little hope of
achieving a legislative victory in the remaining 37 days.

[Trump] promised to ask
every government department to provide a list of wasteful projects for him to
eliminate in his first 100 days. [Trump has not been exactly successful in
this endeavor]
[Now he]
tweeted Friday about the "ridiculous standard" by which he will be judged
on his accomplishments during his first 100 days in office.
So whether it's a ridiculous standard or not, Trump has certainly embraced it,
just as presidents before him have for the past 80 years.

to exit the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade pact.
Trump is approaching the first symbolic milestone of his presidency on
Saturday with a familiar mix of bluster and smokescreens, meant to disguise
the reality that he has produced one of the least-prolific first 100 day
debuts of any president in modern history ... critics argue that not only has
the President failed to muster a record of significant political achievement
in his first 100 days, he has tarnished his office.

With the annual August recess rapidly approaching for members of Congress — the
House will be in session only
13 more days before its members take off for the month — pressure is on for
President Trump’s party to show that it has achieved some significant policy
goals.
Trump has repeatedly said that his stewardship has led to uncommon success,
arguing last month that he’d accomplished more than any president since Franklin
Roosevelt — a claim that hinges on
including his many executive orders, though they didn’t always do very much.
But it’s true that Congress has put more legislation on his desk so far in 2017
than it has in the first years of other recent presidents. [see interesting

Undated 2018:
Claim
President Donald Trump's 2018 budget proposal calls for cuts in benefits to
highly disabled veterans
What's True
Under one of many possible scenarios, disabled veterans could have seen their
annual disability benefits fall from around $35,000 to around $13,000 under
Donald Trump's budget proposal to cut "individual unemployability" for disabled
veterans who were old enough to receive Social Security payments.
What's False
The amounts
presented would only have applied to veterans with 60 percent disability ratings
who lived alone; veterans with higher disability ratings and more dependents
would have had a lower percentage cut. The proposal has also since been
abandoned.

These are the bills Trump signed into law in his first year as President
In his first year in office, President Donald Trump signed 117 bills into law,
but few represented major legislative achievements.
The passage of a massive Republican tax overhaul law stands as the crowning
victory of the Trump agenda's first year. However, the majority of laws were
symbolic, expanded upon existing legislation, or aimed at dismantling former
President Barack Obama's legislative legacy. Many passed through the
Congressional Review Act, which allows Congress to roll back regulations imposed
by the executive branch.

February 9: Trump
signed a landmark bill that could create the next big technologies to fight
climate change
Donald Trump is no champion of the environment. But this morning, in signing a
bill to continue funding the US government, he also ended up supporting two
pieces of new legislation that could create the next big technologies to fight
climate change.
Trump found himself in this situation because of the peculiar way in which the
US government works. Every so often, both houses of the US congress have to pass
a bill to continue funding the government. This bill needs a super majority,
which means that even though Republicans have a majority in both houses, they
have to get some Democrats on their side.
The budget bill passed today included a lot of extra defense spending. In return
for scratching the Republicans’ back, Democrats secured a slew of spending and
tax credits on health care, education, and clean energy. Some of these had huge
Republican support, such as the 45Q tax credits for carbon capture and 45J
nuclear-power production credits.
“This is a stunning one-two punch for the future of US-led clean and reliable
energy,” says Rich Powell, director of ClearPath, an organization that lobbies
for clean energy.

March 28: Dreamers
feel 'sold out' as Trump signs spending bill
US president says he considers move to block massive $1.3 trillion spending bill
after Democrats 'abandoned' Dreamers.
Protections for Dreamers - a term used to describe DACA recipients based on
never-passed legislation that would have provided permanent protections - have
been at the forefront of Democrats' anti-Trump rhetoric.
The Trump administration has been battling with Democrats over these protections
since last year. Democrats have repeatedly threatened government shutdowns over
protections, only to relent and vote for further spending bills.
The last was a stopgap funding bill passed in February. Since then, bipartisan
proposals that would have provided permanent protections for Dreamers have been
shot down by Trump.

May 25: Trump Signs Orders Cracking Down on
Federal Workers' Unions
One of the three orders signed on Friday limits the amount of official time
federal employees can spend on union duties to no more than 25 percent. It also
requires the federal government to start charging union members rent for using
space in federal buildings, to stop paying employees for the cost of lobbying
the federal government, and to more aggressively negotiate union contracts.
Trump’s move to curtail the activities of federal unions follows a wave of laws
signed by Republican governors over the past decade restricting public-sector
collective bargaining and weakening government unions -- moves that
conservatives see as helpful in shrinking government and undermining political
foes.

signs VA law to provide veterans more private health care choices

June 13: Trump Is Sabotaging a Veterans’
Health Care Law He Just Signed
After gleefully signing the VA Mission Act into law last week, Trump is now
refusing to fund it.
The Choice Act has caused even longer wait times for veterans and has diverted
funds from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) budget that could have been
used to remediate the agency’s long-standing capacity problems—the agency is
currently operating with over 36,000 vacancies.
“This bill provides $5 billion for the Choice program,” Sen. Sanders said in a
statement announcing his opposition. “It provides nothing to fill the vacancies
at the VA. That is wrong. My fear is that this bill will open the door to the
draining, year after year, of much needed resources from the VA.”
The Trump administration was closely involved in shaping the bill and getting it
passed, and the president signed the bill on the 74th anniversary of D-Day while
casting it as a fulfillment of the nation’s moral obligation to those who have
served.
After Trump signed the VA Mission Act into law, it entered the guardianship of
the executive branch. Immediately, the White House began backtracking on some of
the law’s requirements, and now advocates are worried that key statues could be
misinterpreted or implemented so to further the conservative fever dream in
which the only choice left for veterans seeking health care is the private
sector.
The VA Mission Act will expand caregiver benefits to thousands of new families
and result in more than 600,000 additional veterans seeking care in the first
few years after its passage—policymakers estimate that if new money isn’t
allocated for these programs, more than $50 billion could be plundered from
other VA programs over the next five years.

June 20: In a sudden
reversal, President Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order designed to
keep together immigrant families who have been detained at the U.S.-Mexico
border, while also retaining his administration’s so-called “zero-tolerance”
immigration policy.
“I didn’t like the sight or the feeling of families being separated,” Trump said
from the Oval Office. “At the same time, we are keeping a very powerful border,
but continue to be zero tolerance.”
Trump’s executive order would keep most families together under the Department
of Homeland Security, except in cases where an adult may pose a threat to a
child. (Read the

Trump Signs Career and Technical Education Bill into Law
On July 31, President Trump signed
legislation to update the Department of Education's $1.2 billion Career and
Technical Education (CTE) program. The signing caps a prolonged, bipartisan
effort in Congress to reauthorize the program, which funds efforts to address
workforce shortages and promote secondary and post-secondary training for jobs
that do not require a four-year degree. The new CTE law complements recent White
House initiatives to support workforce development, including in STEM fields.

September 11:
Congress agrees on biggest VA budget yet, but leaves long-term MISSION Act
funding unclear
The Veterans Affairs Department is on track to receive its biggest budget yet,
but the agency still doesn’t have a firm, long-term
funding path for its new community care program.
A joint congressional conference committee approved $86.5 billion in
discretionary funding for VA in 2019, a new high for the department. It’s
part of lawmakers’ agreement on a “minibus” of bills, which also include
appropriations for energy and water, military construction and the legislative
branch.
Congress also agreed to give VA $1.75 billion in discretionary funding to cover
community care costs under the VA MISSION Act, which Congress passed earlier
this summer. That total is $500 million above what the department originally
requested, due to “unanticipated costs in VA’s traditional community care
programs,” the conference
report on the appropriations bill reads.
Under the Maintaining
Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks (MISSION)
Act, VA is supposed to consolidate all previously disparate community care
programs into one. The new law builds off a previous one, the Veterans Access,
Choice and Accountability (Choice) Act, which Congress passed in 2014.

President Donald Trump signed the Department of Veterans Affairs
fiscal 2019 budget into law on Friday, giving the department a funding boost
of more than 6 percent and pushing the agency’s total spending

The president finalized the bill at a ceremony held in the North Las Vegas VA
Medical Center, surrounded by federal officials and local veterans. He praised
the massive spending measure as
another promise kept by his administration.
“With this funding bill we have increased the VA’s budget to the largest ever,”
he said. “We are delivering the resources to implement crucial VA reforms.”
The bill includes $1.1 billion for the start of a VA electronic health records
overhaul and $400 million for opioid abuse prevention within the department,
