Stephen Alan Wynn
(né
Weinberg; born January 27, 1942) is an American
real
estate businessman and art collector. He is known for his involvement in the
American luxury
casino and
hotel industry.[3]
Early in his career he oversaw the construction and operation of several notable
Las Vegas
and
Atlantic City hotels, including the
Golden Nugget, the
Golden Nugget Atlantic City,
The Mirage,
Treasure Island, the
Bellagio, and
Beau Rivage in
Mississippi, and he played a pivotal role in the resurgence and expansion of
the
Las Vegas Strip in the 1990s. In 2000, Wynn sold his company,
Mirage Resorts, to MGM Grand Inc., resulting in the formation of MGM Mirage
(now
MGM Resorts International). Wynn later took his company
Wynn
Resorts public in an
initial public offering, and was Wynn Resorts' CEO and Chairman of the Board
until February 6, 2018, when he announced his resignation. He is a prominent
donor to the
Republican Party, and was the finance chair of the
Republican National Committee from January 2017 to January 2018, when he
resigned amid
sexual misconduct allegations.[4][5]

In 2018, Wynn was accused by dozens of people of sexual misconduct, ranging from
harassment to forcible assault to coercing a female employee into sex; he denies
the allegations.[9]
Wynn stepped down as CEO of Wynn Resorts on February 6, 2018 because of these
allegations. His name was also removed from
a plaza on the campus of the
University of Pennsylvania and his honorary degree from the school was
rescinded.[10]
Between 2012 and 2018, Wynn contributed more than $2.5 million to the
Republican Governors Association and also donated $411,000 to the
National Republican Senatorial Committee, $248,000 to the
Republican National Committee, and $100,000 to the
National Republican Congressional Committee.[84]
In 2016, Wynn donated $833,000 to
Republican Party joint fundraising committees.[85]
After
Donald Trump won the
2016 U.S. presidential election, Wynn was named a vice-chairman of Trump's
inauguration committee, along with other donors such as
Sheldon and
Miriam Adelson,
Woody Johnson,
Anthony Scaramucci,
Mel
Sembler, and
Phil
Ruffin.[86]

After the January 2017
inauguration of Donald Trump, Wynn was named finance chairman of the
Republican National Committee;[85]
he was personally selected by Trump for the post.[84]
On January 28, 2018, Wynn resigned.[84]
In October 2017 The Wall Street Journal reported that Wynn, who has
financial interests in China,
lobbied
President Trump on behalf of the Chinese government to return a Chinese
dissident,
Guo Wengui, to China.[87][88]
In 1991, Dennis Gomes, president of Wynn's
Golden Nugget, left his position to join
Donald
Trump's
Trump Taj Mahal in
Atlantic City, New Jersey, receiving a $1 million bonus in lieu of
equity. Wynn filed suit against Trump and Gomes for breach of contract, as
Gomes was contracted to work at the Nugget until 1992. Gomes settled in 1994.[94][95]
Also in 1991, Gomes alleged in a countersuit that Wynn used harsh language
against Gomes, but Wynn's representatives denied the allegations, implying that
they were an attempt to refocus the lawsuit from Gomes to Wynn.[96]

In a legal battle over an attempt by Wynn-controlled Mirage to build a casino in
Atlantic City, Donald Trump claimed in a lawsuit that Wynn used a private
investigator as a double agent to secretly record conversations with Trump. The
investigator, Louis Rodriguez, a former Los Angeles police officer and
investigator for the IRS, claimed he had a change of heart because he felt that
Trump used his efforts "in an immoral and unethical manner to cause financial
harm" to Wynn and Mirage and thus turned "whistleblower." Wynn settled the
lawsuit in 2000 and befriended Trump, who attended Wynn's wedding in 2011.[100][101]

Political Payback: Democrats Hammer RNC Over Steve Wynn Contributions
In the week after the
Harvey Weinstein scandal broke last October, Republicans blasted Democrats
for taking money from an accused sexual predator.
On Friday, the Democratic National Committee returned fire, this time over
casino mogul
Steve Wynn.
The Wall Street Journal
reported on accusations of a “decades-long pattern of sexual misconduct” by
Wynn, based on the accounts of dozens of current employees. The Journal also
reported that Wynn made a $7.5 million settlement with one woman. Wynn called
the claims that he assaulted any woman “preposterous,” and blamed the appearance
of the story on an acrimonious divorce from his ex wife, Elaine. In the hours
after the story broke, Fox News said they would no longer book him.
Wynn is a friend of President Trump’s, and last year was named finance chairman
of the
Republican National Committee.

January 27:
For 24 hours, the Republican Party said nothing. The
silence was particularly remarkable in light of the GOP’s reaction to reports in
October that Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulted numerous women. The same day
the first report was publish, the Republican Party demanded the Democratic Party
and all Democratic officials
return money from Weinstein, who was a major donor to Democrats.
On Saturday afternoon, Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel
released a statement.
The GOP’s statement about Wynn makes no mention about the extremely serious
allegations of sexual abuse contained in the Wall Street Journal article. It
doesn’t even make an oblique mention to the importance of women to the
Republican Party.
Thus far Republicans are keeping Wynn’s money — and keeping their mouths shut.

January 29:
Income inequality allows men like Steve Wynn and Trump to sexually exploit
women.
The contrast between Mr. Wynn’s position and that of the salon and spa employees
is stark. Former employees said their awareness of Mr. Wynn’s power in Las
Vegas, combined with the knowledge that the jobs they held were among the
best-paying available there, added up to a feeling of dependence and
intimidation when Mr. Wynn made requests of them. [...]
The woman said that because he was her boss, she felt she had no choice but to
agree to some of Mr. Wynn’s requests, including that one.
Just like Donald Trump, Steve Wynn too
preyed on women who were not as powerful or wealthy as he was. Just like Donald
Trump, Steve Wynn too used an army of high-priced lawyers and the occasional
settlement to silence and threaten his accusers. Just like Donald Trump, Steve
Wynn too relied on his well-connected friends to squash rumors of his sexual
assaults.
All this should remind us that there is a causal link between income inequality
and sexual abuse. It isn’t the entire explanation, but it is part of it. In a
world where money is power, income inequality translates into a deep disparity
in power. Weak worker protections, precarious economic conditions, and the fear
of losing health insurance compel some to endure an abusive environment. No one
should have to sacrifice their dignity to put food on the table.

Steve Wynn: Donald Trump ‘Almost Died’ Over ‘Access Hollywood’ Tape
In leaked comments of his pleas for support after claims of sexual misconduct,
Steve Wynn confided to employees how his buddy in the White House dealt with his
own bombshell.
In those meetings, several participants apparently recorded Wynn—and passed
those tapes on to the Journal, too.
In one, the Journal reports, Wynn told his employees that Trump
confided during a pre-inauguration dinner that he “almost died” after the
“scary” leak of the infamous Access Hollywood tape in which he
boasted about grabbing women by their genitals.
According to Wynn, Trump talked about how difficult he found the election
campaign—saying he wouldn’t have done it if he’d known how hard it would be—and
addressed the Access Hollywood tape that nearly brought down his
campaign a month before Election Day.

CNBC then asked the spokeswoman whether the group plans to accept future

According to documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by the
group American Oversight, the White House asked for a meeting with acting
Solicitor General Jeff Wall to discuss litigation between Wynn Resorts and
hundreds of
Wynn Las Vegas dealers, who were involved in a battle over tip-pooling.
The nature of the ensuing discussion — or whether it even took place — is
unknown, but the Department of Ethics office subsequently cleared Wall to “work

Restaurants Association (NRA) which was engaged in similar litigation over the
control of employee tips.
