Progressivism
is the support for or
advocacy
of improvement of society by
reform.[1]
It is today largely synonymous with left-of-centre political ideology. As a
philosophy,
it is based on the
idea of progress, which asserts that advancements in
science,
technology,
economic development and
social organization are vital to the improvement of the
human condition. Progressivism became highly significant during the
Age of Enlightenment in Europe, out of the belief that Europe was
demonstrating that societies could progress in
civility
from uncivilized conditions to civilization through strengthening the basis of
empirical knowledge as the foundation of society.[2]
Figures of the Enlightenment believed that progress had
universal application to all societies and that these ideas would spread
across the world from Europe.[2]

July 5: Despite all the Democrats' special
election wins, high voter turnout in primaries and polls showing strong party
enthusiasm heading into the midterms, the fact remains that Democrats are still
stuck at their lowest level of power in nearly a century.
Even though President Trump's poll numbers have stabilized, party leaders see
2018 as a chance to seize back one key lever of government: the House of
Representatives. But Democrats and their core voters can't seem to agree on the
best direction to take.

If
President Trump has been clear on one thing, it's that globalized trade is a raw
deal for American workers.
Of course, most mainstream economists and commentators do not agree, to put it
mildly. They see globalized trade as a win-win for everyone, and Trump's
"America First" agenda as myopic and destructive.
But our protectionist in chief is getting at least a little sympathy from one
unlikely group: progressive economists.

With the Nov. 6
election rapidly approaching, Florida voters have a stark choice for governor
with historical ramifications.
Tallahassee Mayor
Andrew Gillum, the surprise winner of the state's Democratic primary, will
seek to become Florida's first black governor and claim an office held by
Republicans for most of the past two decades. He's facing Republican Ron
DeSantis, a former U.S. representative for Florida's 6th District who's closely
aligned with President
Donald Trump.

NAACP on
Bombing Attempts against Media, African American Leaders and Progressives
With less than two weeks before the critical midterm elections, the discovery of
pipe bombs across the country sent to those who have been critical of the
current president shows, yet again, how fractured we are as a society.
