February 28: Trump twice received forged nomination for Nobel Peace Prize, committee says
Olav Njolstad, secretary for the five-member Nobel Institute, said the organization “has good reason to believe that a nomination we received concerning Trump has been falsified.”
He said this is the second time the organization has received a false nomination for the president. The institute received a false nomination for Trump last year but did not disclose that fact to the public, The Times reported.
Nominations for the peace prize are submitted by a select group of lawyers, heads of state, university professors, Nobel Institute committee members, and heads of organizations that have previously won the Nobel Prize. The nominating process is highly vetted and secretive.

The Norwegian police said Tuesday they had closed an investigation into Donald Trump's fake Nobel Peace Prize nomination after failing to identify the person behind it.
The Norwegian Nobel Institute filed a police report earlier this year after receiving a seemingly fraudulent nomination of the US president for the prestigious prize.
Suspicion mounted that the nomination was submitted by a person suspected of committing identity fraud to appear legitimate, as only a select group of individuals -- including members of parliament and government, former laureates and some university professors -- are entitled to propose names.

The Nobel Institute keeps the nominations secret for 50 years, but those who nominate are allowed to disclose their choice. So while Trump’s known nomination for the 2018 prize failed to qualify, he may have a shot next year.
