Undated: "Make America Great Again" (abbreviated as MAGA) is a campaign slogan used in American politics that was popularized by Donald Trump in his successful 2016 presidential campaign. Ronald Reagan used the similar slogan "Let's Make America Great Again" in his successful 1980 presidential campaign. Democratic pollster Douglas Schoen has called Trump's use of the phrase as "probably the most resonant campaign slogan in recent history," citing large majorities of Americans who believed the country was in decline.[1][2] The slogan has become a pop culture phenomenon, seeing widespread use and spawning numerous variants in the arts, entertainment and politics.

March 4: Fact Check: Hitler and Trump. Common slogans?
Claim
As the Nazi Party rose to power, Hitler used the slogan "Make Germany Great Again."

What's True
A prominent theme during the Nazi Party's ascendancy was restoring Germany to its former greatness, and Adolf Hitler used the phrase "make Germany great again" upon occasion.

What's False
"Make Germany Great Again" was not a (campaign) slogan employed by Hitler, and Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler are far from the only politicians who promised to make their countries "great again."

Origin
In March 2016, various online images attempted to draw a connection between Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and Nazi leader Adolf Hitler by claiming that both politicians campaigned using similar slogans:

February 25: President Trump: Replace The Dollar With Gold As The Global Currency To Make America Great Again

As it happens, there is a global currency.

It’s called the "U.S. dollar.”

Most international trade is priced in dollars. The Bretton Woods international monetary system invested the dollar, which then was defined as and (internationally) was legally convertible to gold at $35/oz, with global currency status.  France’s then-finance minister, later its president, Valéry  Giscard d'Estaing, called the “reserve currency” status of the dollar -- its status, along with gold, as global currency -- an “exorbitant privilege.”

September 14: Cherokee teacher: Why I objected to ‘Make America Great Again’ shirts in class

When River Ridge High School math teacher Lyn Orletsky instructed two boys in her pre-calculus class to turn their “Make America Great Again” T-shirts inside out to conceal the slogan, her motivation was not political, she said. After teaching five years in conservative Cherokee County where nearly three out of four voters endorsed Donald Trump in November, Orletsky had seen many pro Trump shirts in her classroom.

But this was Aug. 31, two weeks after white supremacists and Neo Nazis adopted “Make America Great Again” as their rallying cry in Charlottesville, Va. A counterdemonstrator was killed and others injured when one of the marchers drove his car intentionally into a crowd. Orletsky feared the slogan would intimidate the minority students who comprised a third of her math class that morning.

March 12: Make America White Again?

Donald Trump’s language is eerily similar to the 1920s Ku Klux Klan—hypernationalistic and anti-immigrant.

Last weekend, Saturday Night Live produced a mock “Voters for Trump” ad, in which everyday “real Americans” gently describe why they support Donald Trump for president—before they are all revealed to be white supremacists, Klan members, and Nazis. Trump, of course, not only received former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke’s support for his candidacy, but also declined to disavow the Ku Klux Klan on CNN.

August 31: Trump declares mission accomplished in his bid to make America great again

To hear Donald Trump tell it this week, things have never been better in America, thanks to him.

At a rally in Evansville, Ind., on Thursday, the president took his latest victory lap, reiterating that the time had already come to update his famous campaign slogan.

“You know our new slogan that we’ll be switching to because we’re way ahead of schedule to ‘Make America Great Again,’ right? It’s called ‘Keep America Great!’ That’s what’s happening. We’re so far ahead of schedule.”

September 16: Eric Holder: "Make America Great Again" Mindset Is Rooted In Fear Of Future

Saturday at the Human Rights Campaign national dinner, former Attorney General Eric Holder gave his perspective on the president's "Make America Great Again" slogan. He said the idea of idealizing the past is rooted in fear of the future, and "they are just too busy figuring out how to make America great again."

"Every time I hear that phrase I wonder when exactly do they have in mind? What decade? What year?"

He added: "This sort of thinking, this ‘Make America Great’ mindset is not only flawed, it’s rooted in fear. And it favors an imagined past over a realistic future."

September 24: [From "why do people love -or hate- Trump? Here Are The 20 Top Reasons "]

1. He says he wants to “Make America Great Again.”
Yes, this is what he says. But what that means is that he wants to return to an America that was racist, sexist, homophobic, and xenophobic. It means he wants to return to a time when white men ruled the country and received a leg up on others by stepping on their necks. In other words, he wants to move backwards and erase all of the progress America has made since the Civil Rights struggles of the 1960s. The sad truth is that America was never great, but we were moving away from that. Trump wants to reverse progress.

October 19: Donald Trump Is Making Canada Great Again

For an administration that came into power on an “America First” agenda, railed against international trade deals for being unfair to the United States, and promised to create new jobs here at home, its current stance on marijuana policy could not be any more counter to their stated goals. If anything, the Trump Administration’s current stance on the cannabis industry can only be described as “Canada First.”
