July 22: Political conventions used to be celebratory affairs. But in Cleveland this week, the most reliable source of good cheer has been Republicans’ collective fantasy of putting Hillary Clinton behind bars.
First there were the ritualized chants of “lock her up.” Then, leading Trump surrogate (and former federal prosecutor) Gov. Chris Christie used his podium time to conduct a mock show trial, leading a call-and-response to delighted cries of “guilty!” The next day, a Trump delegate and adviser said that the presumptive Democratic nominee for president — a former secretary of state, senator, and first lady (whom the FBI declined to charge with any crime after a long investigation into her email practices) — “should be put in the firing line and shot for treason.” The best Trump’s spokeswoman could muster was that “we don’t agree with his comments” while reaffirming that “we’re incredibly grateful for his support.”

He is a veteran of the agriculture lobbying and oil industries, once working for a company that spilled thousands of gallons of oil in California
Michael Stoker has been credited with coining the infamous saying calling for Ms Clinton to be put in prison for using a private email server while she was Secretary of State. He reportedly began the chant at Republican National Convention in 2016 while a state delegate and it went on to be heard at numerous political rallies of US President Donald Trump - followed by signs, t-shirts, and the president himself saying it on stage. Mr Stoker is now head of the Pacific southwest regional office of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

August 21: Supporters of President Donald Trump attending his political rally in West Virginia on Tuesday chanted “lock her up” at the first mention of Hillary Clinton.
That, to put it mildly, is incredibly rich with irony today.
About three hours before the evening rally, Trump’s longtime fixer and personal lawyer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to eight felony counts. That’s not all: A Virginia court convicted Trump’s former campaign chair Paul Manafort of eight felony counts, including tax fraud, bank fraud, and hiding a foreign bank account.
Cohen and Manafort are likely soon headed to prison — in other words, they will actually be locked up.

November: Trump incites a “lock her up” chant against women who make sexual harassment accusations.
At a rally in Indiana, President Donald Trump closed out his midterm campaigning by returning to the accusations against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Trump told the story of one of the women whose accusations was investigated by the Senate Judiciary Committee, although it didn’t receive much media attention or get taken up by the Democrats. “This woman came out and said she made up the story,” Trump said. This incited the crowd to go into an extended “lock her up” chant, which the president egged on by raising his hands like a conductor. Then Trump extended his critique to other women who made similar accusations, including presumably those that were much more substantial, such as Christine Blasey Ford and Debbie Ramirez.
