April 5:
Jared Kushner Hires Blumhouse PR Chief Josh Raffel for White House Role
Hollywood publicist
Josh Raffel has joined the White House Office of American Innovation.
Raffel, 32, previously represented
Jared Kushner’s Kushner Companies when he worked for Hiltzik Strategies.
Kushner,
Donald Trump’s son-in-law, has been tasked with injecting ideas from the
business world into the federal bureaucracy. Hope Hicks, another Hiltzik
veteran, is part of the Trump administration’s communications team.
After leaving Hiltzik in 2015, Raffel ran communications for
Blumhouse Productions, the producer of horror hits such as “The Purge” and
“Insidious.” In a business studded with profane and controlling mouthpieces, he
is well respected among entertainment journalists for his sane, sensible style
and his wit. Raffel confirmed his new job to Variety, but declined to
offer additional comment.

March 27:
White House spokesman Josh Raffel, a close ally of Jared Kushner and Ivanka
Trump, is leaving the administration, according to two people familiar with the
situation.
Raffel is a former Hollywood public relations executive, and he previously
represented Kushner’s real estate company. He was also previously a colleague of
White House communications director Hope Hicks.
He developed a reputation as a fierce — and often combative — defender of
Kushner and Ivanka Trump and he often led their communications efforts. Raffel
also oversaw communications on issues related to Israel and Palestine, and he
assisted National Economic Council director Gary Cohn in selling the tax reform
bill.
Raffel will return to the private sector, departing at some point in the next
two months, a White House official said.

August 8:
Behind The Jared And Ivanka PR Machine
When reporters are working on stories that involve Jared Kushner and Ivanka
Trump, they hear from Josh Raffel, a tough, former New York City flack now
inside the White House.
On a Thursday late last month, shortly before the New Yorker published its
famous interview with Anthony Scaramucci, Jared Kushner paused in the West Wing
to chat with ABC’s Jonathan Karl and his daughter, who worked as a CNN summer
intern.
Kushner told Karl’s daughter that it must be interesting to be a reporter,
because you always have to figure out who is going to lie to you, according to
two people familiar with the matter.
When Kushner thought he noticed another reporter, New York magazine’s Olivia
Nuzzi, recording the exchange, he was startled and said it was off the record.
He then uncomfortably asked Nuzzi to delete the recording, which she did not do.
A few minutes later, after Kushner had left, a Secret Service agent and a press
assistant approached Nuzzi and told her she was not permitted to record. (She
is.)
The exchange offered a brief look into Kushner’s awkwardness sometimes when it
comes to dealing with the press. Luckily for him, it’s a responsibility that
typically falls to a 33-year-old White House spokesperson and key lieutenant:
Josh Raffel.
