August 9: Donald Trump's Big-Spending Infrastructure Dream

The Republican nominee’s push to pour more money into roads and bridges than Hillary Clinton is his latest break with conservatives, and it’s drawing criticism from one of his own economic advisers.

May 11:
More than 500 infrastructure projects are pitched to Trump, who will favor private money and speed

States, unions, presidential advisers and consultants flood the White House with proposals. The president's pledge to cut regulations and his condition for funding — "If you have a job that you can't start within 90 days ... it doesn't help us" — risks leaving critical construction and repair behind.

February 12: Trump rolls out infrastructure plan hinged on state, private dollars

The White House unveiled its long-awaited infrastructure plan on Monday, proposing $200 billion in new federal spending that it says will ultimately spur a $1.5 trillion investment over the next 10 years.

"We have to rebuild our infrastructure," President Donald Trump said Monday morning. "We're trying to fix roads and bridges that are falling down."

The plan includes $100 billion in "incentives" that would require local and state governments to pony up big bucks or partner with private companies to unlock federal dollars. While the government will judge several criteria when considering whether or not to give out infrastructure dollars, the biggest will be outside funding.

February 12: Trump infrastructure plan includes push to sell federal airports, power assets, more

The Trump administration is making a push to sell off federal assets as part of its infrastructure plan released Monday.

Trump has repeatedly blamed the "crumbling" state of the nation's roads and highways for preventing the American economy from reaching its full potential.

Among the targeted federal assets: Reagan National and Dulles International airports and two major parkways serving the Washington region, as well as power assets around the country, according to a copy of the proposal.

The Washington Aqueduct, which supplies drinking water in Washington and Northern Virginia, also is on the list.

December 21: Paying more for less: the blueprint of the newest Trump infrastructure deal

Congressional bipartisanship, real investment could pave the way for a new bill.

An infrastructure package containing perhaps as much as $1 trillion in combination of outright spending, tax beaks and subsidies for more public-private partnerships is being floated in Washington as a way for Democrats and Republicans to feign bipartisanship in this hyper-partisan era of confrontational politics.

January 18: The Trump administration isn't giving up hope of pursuing a "significant" infrastructure initiative during President Donald Trump's first term.

The White House held a high-level meeting Tuesday to chart potential paths forward, according to three people familiar with the matter.

The hour-long meeting, convened by the National Economic Council and helmed by NEC Director Larry Kudlow, was described as a "status conference" to discuss how best to move forward on a package once the government shutdown ends.

March 5: House Dem dismisses paying for infrastructure by rolling back Trump tax law

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) signaled on Tuesday that he thinks there are better ways to pay for an infrastructure package than a rollback of the GOP tax law.

Blumenauer told reporters that it would be "complex" to link infrastructure with major changes to the tax code.

"I think of all the ways that we could have to fund the rebuilding and renewing of America, I think that is fraught with peril," said Blumenauer, a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over taxes.
