David Melech Friedman
(born August 8, 1958) is an American bankruptcy lawyer and the
United States Ambassador to Israel. He joined the law firm
Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman (then known as Kasowitz, Hoff, Benson &
Torres) in 1994, where he met and represented
Donald
Trump, then chairman and president of
The Trump Organization. He served as an advisor to Trump during his
successful
presidential campaign. In December 2016, President-elect Trump's
transition team announced that Friedman was Trump's nominee for ambassador.
His nomination was met with support from conservative Israeli and Jewish
American activist groups, and opposition from liberal advocacy organizations,
particularly J
Street. He was confirmed by the full
Senate on March 23, 2017, with a 52–46 vote,[1]
officially sworn in by Vice President
Mike Pence
on March 29 and presented his credentials on May 15.

March 20:
Why Israel Loves Donald Trump
... and why that’s awkward for Israel.
...
fresh strains between the Palestinians and the U.S. ambassador to Israel, David
Friedman, following the killing by a Palestinian of a Jewish settler.
After the settler was stabbed to death on Monday, Friedman tweeted that he had
previously donated an ambulance to the slain man’s community and that he was
praying for the next-of-kin, adding: “Palestinian ‘leaders’ have praised the
killer.”
That drew a rebuke from the Palestinian administration.

December 17: A senior Palestinian politician
has condemned US President-elect Donald Trump's choice of ambassador to Israel,
David Friedman, a right-wing lawyer who has vowed to move the US embassy to
Jerusalem.
Along with other Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese territories, Israel has
occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of the West Bank since the 1967 war and has
built Jewish-only settlements throughout the territory in contravention of
international law.

April 21: Trump’s State Department no longer
calls West Bank ‘occupied’ in annual report
In first ... document on human rights abuses refers simply to ‘Israel, Golan
Heights, West Bank and Gaza,’ with no comment on the status of the territories
Last December, it was reported that US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman asked
the State Department to stop calling the West Bank occupied, which would mark a
noted departure in US policy.
State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert, however, later told reporters his
comments indicated no shift in the US position. Before his confirmation to the
diplomatic role, Friedman was a staunch settlements supporter and columnist for
right-wing Israeli publications.

December 10: Friedman disappointed with
reactions of some US Jews to Trump
"We don't give money to the Palestinians any more, and we won't until there is
change," he said.
US Ambassador David Friedman is disappointed with the reactions of some American
Jews to what President Donald Trump is doing vis-à-vis Israel.
Friedman has found such reactions “frustrating, disappointing and hurtful,” but
at the same time is unwilling to give up on American Jews. “Some are misguided
but they mean well,” he said on Monday at the annual fall luncheon of the
Na’avah Tehilla Emunah chapter in Jerusalem.
